Our Monarch Watch caterpillars have arrived! Be sure to visit often in the next month to see their progress. 🐛🦋🎉

This is the Library's sixth year raising caterpillars into Monarch Butterflies to send off on a journey to Mexico. Miss Jenn and our Programming Coordinator Jessica are excited to bring more education and fun to this annual tradition, including our first ever Pollinator Palooza! See you soon!

Monarch caterpillars will be here soon, and we have a new Story Walk up to celebrate! 🐛🦋🎉

Along the sidewalk between the library and City Hall, you can enjoy the picture book “Home is Calling: The Journey of the Monarch Butterfly.” And soon, you’ll be able to watch our caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies too!

Introducing a new low-commitment book group for adults, Silent Reading Lounge! Join us in front of the fireplace to have a chat about what you’re currently reading. Then, read silently in the company of other book lovers!

Silent Reading Lounge will take place the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. starting tonight. We hope to see you there!

Tuesday's live owl program hosted by Operation Wildlife was amazing!

Between 80-90 people attended this wonderful program. The presenter, Gary Crain, introduced us to the event's guests-of-honor: a Saw-whet owl, an Eastern Screech Owl, a Barn Owl, and a Great-horned Owl.

We all learned about the natural history of each owl, including habitat range, diet, adaptations, species behaviors, and other really cool facts about each owl, as well as owl and raptor facts in general.
We also learned about each owl's story and why it ended up at Operation Wildlife. Every public education animal at Operation Wildlife has a permanent disability and cannot be released back into the wild.

Where do librarians go on their day off? Another library of course! 🤓

While the library was closed for plumbing repairs last week, we took the opportunity for a staff retreat! First, we headed over for a tour of the Kansas City Public Library's Central Library. Did you know they have a movie theater in a vault there?! We may have taken advantage of it and watched a screening of the hilarious, library-centric romantic comedy, Desk Set...

After lunch, we headed over to the The Rabbit Hole, a wonderfully whimsical museum experience completely inspired by children's literature. From Good Night Moon to Where the Sidewalk Ends, there were many fun, interactive exhibits straight from kids books to explore. We had so much fun!

We appreciate the community's patience and understanding while the library underwent plumbing repairs. We're happy to be back to normal this week!
