Join local Beacon author Sharon Watts as she shares how she spent years excavating a buried treasure: the remarkable, largely forgotten story of Bert Sommer.

New York singer-songwriter Bert Sommer was just 20 years old when he played his first live gig: Woodstock. He received the festival’s first standing ovation and seemed poised to soar alongside Jimi and Janis. Instead, he became saddled with what Sharon calls the “Woodstock curse.”

In The Rather Magnificent Bert Sommer, Woodstock’s Lost Treasure, Watts offers a captivating and impressionistic portrait of a talented but overlooked performer and a missing piece of the history of Woodstock.
