During my time as Sheriff, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with many people throughout Waldo County about the issues that matter most to them. Two concerns I hear consistently are the impact of illegal drug activity on our communities and the desire for greater traffic enforcement and deputy visibility.

I want to take a moment to recognize the men and women of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office for the work they are doing every day to respond to those concerns.

Over the past several years, our deputies have significantly increased proactive traffic enforcement. They conducted 2,986 traffic stops in 2024 and 2,726 in 2025. So far in 2026, they have already conducted 3,163 traffic stops, putting us on pace for nearly 5,000 stops this year. During 2026, 44 individuals have also been charged with drug-related offenses.

Those numbers are important, but they only tell part of the story.
Our deputies are accomplishing this while continuing to respond to the everyday calls for service that come from communities across Waldo County and while participating in numerous community initiatives. They approach this work with the values we expect from our Sheriff’s Office: integrity, compassion, and teamwork.

What makes me particularly proud is that their commitment to our communities often continues long after their shifts end. Many of our deputies serve in local government, sit on nonprofit boards, volunteer with community organizations, and give their time to young people as coaches and mentors.

Law enforcement is ultimately about more than traffic stops, arrests, or statistics. It is about being present, listening to the people we serve, building relationships, and working every day to make our communities safer and stronger.

I am incredibly proud to lead an agency made up of dedicated, professional, and highly motivated law enforcement officers. I’m grateful for the work they do, both in uniform and as members of the communities they serve.

Thank you to our deputies for your commitment to Waldo County, and thank you to the people of Waldo County for continuing to share your concerns, expectations, and support with us.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is honored to have the privilege of helping safeguard a remarkable piece of American history—the Maine Historical Society’s original copy of the Declaration of Independence.

One of the surviving copies printed on July 4, 1776, this historic document represents a defining moment in our nation’s history and the enduring ideals upon which the United States was founded.

As part of its statewide tour, this piece of history is now on display at the Belfast Public Library, giving residents and visitors a rare opportunity to see an original 1776 Declaration of Independence right here in our community.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is proud to play a small role in protecting this national treasure while it visits our area. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience a tangible piece of the story of American independence.
