At October's Board Meeting, the elected Rent Board passed a 3.8% increase (tied to the Consumer Price Index) to the standard relocation assistance payments that will go into effect January 1, 2027. Read full article here:

To prepare for the transition, Berkeley landlords and property managers should make sure the email address and other contact information associated with their Rent Board account is current and up to date. 🏠 Renting out property in Berkeley? Landlord responsibilities go beyond the Rent Board! The City of Berkeley requires landlords to complete annual obligations like business license renewal and the rental housing safety checklist. City law also requires landlords to follow the Tenant Relocation Ordinance when making repairs, and the Fair Chance Housing Ordinance when reviewing tenant applicants.

🏠 Know your lease: Check your lease for the rules about pets in your specific rental.
🐕 Service animals have special protections: Landlords can’t charge a pet deposit or restrict a service animal based on breed or size.
💰 Know the limits on deposits: If your landlord already collected the maximum allowed security deposit, they can’t charge an additional pet deposit.
