In honor of National Dog Day, our four-legged friends have a few tips for Berkeley renters!

🏠 Know your lease: Check your lease for the rules about pets in your specific rental.
🐕 Service animals have special protections: Landlords can’t charge a pet deposit or restrict a service animal based on breed or size.
💰 Know the limits on deposits: If your landlord already collected the maximum allowed security deposit, they can’t charge an additional pet deposit.

The Berkeley Rent Board offices will remain open until 6 PM on Thursday, July 2nd. Rent Board staff will be available to accommodate property owners who want to pay registration fees in person.

An automatic 100% penalty will be applied to all unpaid registration fees on July 3. Please be aware that our offices will be closed July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.
