Briarcliff Manor Fire Department

Briarcliff Manor Fire Department The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department (BMFD) is located in Westchester County, NY. The department is 100% volunteer. Messinger.

BMFD consists of 3 Engines, 1 Rescue, 1 Tower Ladder, 1 Utility, 2 Ambulances, 1 UTV, and 3 command vehicles. The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department (BMFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the village of Briarcliff Manor, New York and its hamlet Scarborough. The volunteer fire department also serves unincorporated areas of Ossining and Mount Pleasant. The fire department ha

s three fire companies, two stations, and four fire engines. Its engines include three pumpers and a tower-ladder; the department also maintains other vehicles, including a heavy rescue vehicle. The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department Ambulance Corps provides emergency medical transport with two ambulances. The fire department is headquartered at the Briarcliff Manor Village Hall, with its other station in Scarborough, on Scarborough Road. The Briarcliff Steamer Company No. 1 was founded in 1902 by Frederick C. He became the first chief of the department, founded February 10, 1903. In 1906, the Briarcliff Fire Company was established. The village's municipal building and first permanent firehouse was built in 1914 in downtown Briarcliff Manor. Seven years later, in 1921, the Scarborough Fire Company was established. From 1930 to 1971, the Archville Fire Department was dissolved into Scarborough's fire company, which expanded its fire protection to Archville. In 1936, the Briarcliff Manor Hook and Ladder Company was formed. For the department's 50th anniversary, the village hosted numerous events, including a parade with twelve fire departments present. In 1963, the Briarcliff Manor Village Hall was constructed, again housing the fire and police departments. In 1974, a replacement firehouse was built for the Scarborough Engine Company. The fire department's 75th anniversary in 1976 drew a parade of 650 firemen from fourteen companies. In 1982, one of the most notable fires took place, in Briarcliff's downtown. The fire lasted three and a half hours and took over a hundred firefighters to control. The department also participated in fighting the Briarcliff Lodge fire in 2003, which demolished the 1902 Walter Law-built hotel. In 2010, Scarborough's firehouse was again replaced, doubling its size.

This weekend, the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department joins communities across the nation in honoring the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer — it is a time to remember and reflect on those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all members of our military, past and present, and especially remember those who never made it home. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

The American Legion/BMFD Memorial Day parade will begin Monday at 12:00 PM and will be immediately followed by the American Legion ceremony in Law Park. We encourage everyone to come out, support these traditions, and take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

From all of us at the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department — thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for our nation.

Today marked the inaugural BMFD Yoga class, led by our very own who says "We’re hoping this will become a “where it all began” moment… first ever yoga class !! Tremendously grateful for the extraordinary group of BMFD members who got it off the ground"

Members took some time to slow things down, work on mobility, and focus on recovery. Between the gear, the calls, and the training, taking care of our bodies is just as important as sharpening our skills.

Tonight, more than 50 members of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department are participating in specialized training on Electric Vehicle (EV) emergencies, led by Signal 73 Fire Training LLC..

As EVs become more common on our roadways, so do the unique challenges they present to first responders. From motor vehicle accidents to fires and damaged battery systems, these incidents carry risks far beyond the traditional vehicle response. Lithium-ion batteries can reignite hours—or even days—after an incident, burn for hours or days, produce toxic gases, and involve hazardous materials due to the heavy metals within the battery systems. Additionally, high-voltage components introduce serious electrocution hazards that require specialized knowledge and tactics to manage safely.

This training ensures our members are prepared to respond quickly, safely, and effectively to protect both the public and our crews.

Apparently the last 72 hours have been brought to you by the letters “M”, “V”, and “A”…

Motor vehicle accidents. Car fires. Relocation of utility poles.

Your Briarcliff Manor Fire Department volunteers have been keeping busy.

On Sunday, crews responded to Route 9A southbound near the Route 100A off-ramp, where an EV channeled its inner EK (Evil Knievel) by successfully jumping the Pocantico River.

On Monday, crews were dispatched with the Millwood Fire Department to a serious vehicle fire on the Taconic State Parkway southbound, resulting in closure of the southbound roadway for approximately 30 minutes.

And this morning on Holbrook Road, a vehicle decided the local utility pole had been standing for too long and took care of that problem—snapping it in half and causing temporary power outages.

Thankfully, despite the chaos—and despite some drivers making questionable choices—there were only minor or no injuries reported in all three incidents.

🌧️🚒 Rain Didn’t Stop Us… and Neither Did You! 🚒🌧️

THANK YOU to everyone in the community who came out to our Open House this weekend! Despite the rainy weather, the turnout was incredible—and it truly made the day a big success.

From fire truck rides to demonstrations and hands-on activities, it was great to see so many families, kids, and future firefighters spending the morning with us and learning more about what we do. Your support means everything to us.

We also want to give a special thank you to the BMFD members who put in countless hours planning, organizing, and making this event happen. And our partners from the event, BMPD, BMDPW, NY State Police, Signal 73 Fire Training LLC., and everyone else who contributed in any way! Events like this don’t come together on their own, and the effort behind the scenes showed in every part of the day.

We’re proud to serve such a supportive community. Here is a short video from one of our members that sums up the day!

🚨 Remember—BMFD is 100% volunteer. If you’re interested in joining, we’d love to have you.

With the ton of snow that Mother Nature dumped on us this winter, you might think that the ground remains saturated and there is little risk of brush fire at this time.

But here’s the reality: Today’s fire danger rating is “High” for Westchester County and throughout the Hudson Valley. The arrival of spring means an increased risk of brush fires and wildfires.

The Department of Emergency Services reminds everyone that a Burn Ban is in effect in New York State and will remain in effect until May 14.

🚫 What’s NOT allowed:
• Burning of brush, branches, sticks & leaves
• Burning trash, tires, or garbage (prohibited year-round)
✅ What IS allowed:
• Small campfires & cooking fires under 3-feet high / 4-feet wide
• Clean, dry, untreated wood only.

🔐 Here are some other general Fire Safety Tips:
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep a bucket of water or extinguisher nearby
• Fully extinguish fires before walking away
• Check conditions at dec.ny.gov before burning anything
• When in doubt — don’t burn.

Violations can result in fines and put others at risk. Let’s protect our homes, our neighbors, and our first responders. 🙏
