On June 6, 1944, the United States and Allied troops stormed the French coastline to fight N**i Germany on the beaches of Normandy, a day that will forever be known as D-Day. Thousands of heroes died to end the occupation of France and ultimately rid the world of the N**i threat. Their courage and determination would lead to the end of World War II with the unconditional surrender of Germany. We will never forget their sacrifice. May their memory be eternal.

Today is Holocaust Survivor Day. It is a day to celebrate the amazing courage and faith of Holocaust Survivors who are a living testament to the victory of good over evil. We are blessed to have so many Survivors around the world and it is estimated that over 10,000 Survivors are living in Brooklyn, many of which live in my Southern Brooklyn Assembly district. I will continue to honor and stand with our Holocaust Survivors so that their legacy of resilience can continue to educate future generations. We must spread their stories of survival to combat the normalization of hatred.

Monday evening, the Bay Ridge community and the leaders of the Greek Orthodox churches throughout Brooklyn gathered at Cebu Bistro for the Holy Cross Brooklyn Outreach Center fundraiser in memory of Zoe Koutsoupakis. Zoe was the beloved Founder and Vice President of the Outreach Center and the driving force behind so many of our local charities. Sadly, Zoe passed away while on vacation in Greece last August. She was my dear friend and very close to Richie Barsamian, my Director of Community Affairs, who attended tonight’s gathering on my behalf. Richie joined the overflow crowd and shared stories of meeting Zoe in the late 1980s when she worked on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge. Her life was centered on the belief that those who are successful must help those in need. It is impossible to list her accomplishments but her love of our great city and nation started when she arrived as a teenage immigrant and stayed with her as she rose to the top of the banking world. Thank you Holy Cross Brooklyn Outreach Center and Fr. Gerasimos for tonight’s amazing fundraiser in honor of Zoe and thank you for carrying on her legacy of generosity and kindness. May she Rest in Peace and may her memory be a blessing to all.

I was filled with pride as I joined my fellow New Yorkers, elected officials, and visitors from around the world to march with 40,000 participants in the 2026 Israel Day Parade in Manhattan. Crowds of spectators lined both sides of 5th Avenue and were amazing with their enthusiastic support. Thank you NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch for leading the parade as the honorary Grand Marshal. Israelis and Jews around the world will never surrender and will always be proud of who they are and celebrate their history and love for America and Israel. Thank you to the Jewish Community Relations Council of NY for making this event possible. I also want to offer my deep gratitude to the NYPD for their professionalism and dedication in keeping everyone safe and giving us the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful parade. There is a reason they call the NYPD the Finest. Am Yisrael Chai!

It was my pleasure to attend Dance Under the Sky, a wonderful community celebration hosted by the Kaleidoscope Multicultural Center in Brighton Beach.
The event brought people together through the universal language of dance and culture, featuring live performances, traditional dances from diverse cultures, and engaging folk-dance workshops. It was inspiring to see all residents come together to celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes our community so vibrant. Thank you to Anastasya Usmanova for organizing this outstanding event and for inviting me to participate in such a memorable celebration. Your dedication to promoting culture, unity, and community engagement is truly appreciated.

I had the pleasure of visiting Across the Years, Across the Sea, a remarkable art exhibit by Yuiry Groysman at the Coney Island Library. The exhibit showcased beautiful works that inspired reflection, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the stories and experiences that connect us across generations. Thank you to Curator and Branch Manager Boris Ioselev for bringing this wonderful exhibit to the community and for continuing to make the Coney Island Library a vibrant cultural and educational resource for all residents.

Naomi AME Zion Church hosted a beautiful fundraiser celebrating "Women of Virtue." I was proud to attend alongside my Director of Constituent Affairs, Brigitte Purvis-Williams, and present a citation to the evening's honoree, Sheila Smalls-Delfyette. Sheila is a longtime resident of the Coney Island community whose dedication and advocacy have made a lasting impact. As a member of Naomi AME Zion Church, Founder and Executive Director of Coney Island Youth Alive, and leader of the O'Dwyer Gardens Resident Association, she has consistently worked to uplift residents and champion for the community. Thank you to Rev. Classtine Pendarvis and the entire Naomi AME Zion congregation for the warm welcome and for hosting such a wonderful event. Congratulations to Sheila on this well-deserved recognition.
