I was pleased to attend the NYC DOT’s Coney Island Transportation Study presentation at the New York Aquarium, where I engaged with officials and community members on the future of local transportation. The study highlighted ongoing congestion, rising seasonal traffic, and the need for better flow, connectivity, and resiliency. These findings underscore the importance of infrastructure that serves residents, businesses, and the millions who visit Coney Island each year. I also reiterated my strong support for a Bayview Avenue overpass, a critical project that would improve traffic circulation, emergency evacuation routes, first-responder access, and public safety across the peninsula. Thank you to Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Keith Bray for hosting this informative session. I look forward to continuing to work with government partners to deliver the transportation improvements Coney Island needs.

Maimonides Medical Center has opened its newly renovated Mammography Suite and launched its Breast Cancer Survivorship Program, expanding access to advanced breast cancer screening, promoting early detection, and providing ongoing support for survivors. We honored the life and extraordinary legacy of Reverend Dr. William Smalls yesterday, who faithfully served as Pastor of Naomi AME Zion Church for more than 25 years. I was honored to present a citation recognizing his exceptional life of faith, leadership, and dedicated service to Coney Island, Brooklyn, and communities throughout New York. May his legacy continue to inspire future generations to lead with purpose, serve with humility, and uplift others with compassion. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the Smalls family, the Naomi AME Zion congregation, and all whose lives were touched by his remarkable ministry. May his memory be eternal.

The 68th Precinct Community Council held a meet and greet for the new Commanding Officer, Captain Christopher Vincenti, in Dyker Heights on Thursday evening. Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights civic organizations, business owners, and community leaders welcomed Captain Vincenti. I was represented by my Director of Community Affairs, Richie Barsamian, who congratulated the new Commanding Officer. Captain Vincenti has a distinguished 20-year career with a strong understanding of crime reduction strategies and quality of life issues. A big welcome to the new Commanding Officer of the 68th Precinct!

*** CONEY ISLAND POWER OUTAGE & TRANSFORMER FIRES ***

At approximately 6:00 am this morning, Con Edison responded to multiple transformer fires in the area of West 36th Street between Surf and Mermaid Avenue. Three parked cars were damaged when transformers caught fire and fell on top of the vehicles. There were no injuries reported. Con Edison emergency response teams, FDNY, and NYPD remain at the scene. There are 1,400 customers currently without electricity in Coney Island and Sea Gate because of the fires. Con Edison is working to restore power.
