School completes the current year next week. Congratulations to all the graduating seniors.

We will be stepping up out neighborhood patrols during the Summer to keep everyone safe.

As a reminder, to operate a golf cart on the City streets, the operator has to have a valid driver's license. We will be including enforcement of the ordinance in our patrols and we would appreciate everyone's cooperation.

Located on N Arlington. Please contact the department if you know the owner. Thank you.

There was a break in at the concession stand on Hickory Street this weekend. A considerable amount of bottled water, bottled pop and candy was taken. If anyone knows anything about this, they can report to us anonymously if they choose. These items are not insured and the profit from these items goes back into the youth sports activities. We could use some help on this case. .

I know people are very concerned about inattentive driving from cell phones and other items in the car. It is indeed dangerous behavior, but there are still other things that I get concerned about. Young drivers have a susceptibility to another problem. When you drop a tire off of the right side of the roadway, they have a natural reaction to yank the wheel back on the road. This causes a dangerous over-steer and sometimes has the results pictured. This young man was lucky, because of the car safety equipment he had minor injuries.

This is a subject I am all too familiar with, my son did the same thing on Central City road and rolled his truck several times. We consider ourselves lucky, he only got two stitches.

If you have a teen driver, please talk to them about how to react when this happens. There are some great videos om YouTube about how to correct when this happens. I have enclosed pictures of the vehicle from yesterday and my son's truck from 2106.

I want to take a minute to thank the citizens of Carl Junction. I started as the Police Chief 14 years ago today. The people of this town have made this the best 14 years of a 34 year career.

I have 6 kids that have went from kindergarten to graduation in the school system, this has became my hometown.

I promise you at least one more year before retirement and it might be more.

Thank you,

Chief Delmar Haase

We would like to apologize for the confusion on the opening of Joplin Street. We received information from an officer that there was pavement damaged and that they were not going to take down the barricades. We wanted to get that out. When the Public Works employees went down, they took the barricades down and it is open. We are happy that everyone can get abck into their regular routines.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF THE MISSOURI
OZARKS AND EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

To all:
Please note that the supercell scenario for tonight is rather conditional… a lot depends on several factors coming together. Sooooo, please stay weather aware regarding any updates and clarifications to follow.
Keith

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED...

LIMITED TORNADO RISK.
LIMITED HAIL RISK.
LIMITED THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE RISK.
ELEVATED FLOODING RISK.
ELEVATED LIGHTNING RISK.

DISCUSSION...

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP, MOSTLY AFTER
6 PM. THERE IS A CHANCE THAT A FEW SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS COULD
DEVELOP IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND MOVE INTO PORTIONS OF
SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND SOUTHWESTERN MISSOURI. IF THIS SCENARIO
OCCURS, LARGE HAIL TO THE SIZE OF GOLF BALLS, DAMAGING WINDS, AND
AN ISOLATED TORNADO WOULD BE POSSIBLE.

THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE MORE SCATTERED OR LESS WIDESPREAD
IN NATURE VERSUS YESTERDAY, BUT AREAS OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL ALSO
BE POSSIBLE. FLOODING OF NUMEROUS CREEKS, STREAMS, AND LOW WATER
CROSSINGS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE MISSOURI OZARKS THROUGH
TONIGHT.

It is possible that we could receive some weather later tonight. We will keep and eye on things and if anything develops, we will try and let you know. Please stay tuned to local weather broadcasts and please get a weather radio so that you can keep informed. A weather radio will wake you up in emergencies and a storm siren may not.

While the City has not had damaging weather, we have had a tremendous amount of rain. Please, unless you have to be out, please don't get out of the roadways. We have some areas with water covered roads, please do not drive into the water. While it may not look deep, you can't tell if the pavement has been washed out. If you need help, don't hesitate to call the Police Department, or the Fire Department. We both have units out working.

Just a reminder in case of severe weather today:

In the case of a tornado warning being issued for our area, our sirens will be set off only if our storm spotters witness rotation near the city and it appears to be an imminent threat to the city.

The sirens are intended for persons who are outdoors or driving, please do not solely rely on them if you are indoors as they may be difficult to hear.

If you are in need of shelter the PD is open to the public for tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings 24/7.

The high school also has a storm shelter that is open to the community in the case of a severe thunderstorms or tornado warnings.

In the latest drug take back period, we had 75 pounds of drugs turned and they will be turned over to the DEA for incineration. We do want to let everyone know that we can no longer accept inhalers in the take back box. The drugs are incinerated and they can not do the inhalers as they explode. Please refrain from placing them in the take back box.

It is National Telecommunicator Week. I think a lot of our citizen don't realize that we are fortunate to have our own dispatch center here at the Police Department. We have 4 full time dispatchers and two part time dispatchers.

When you call the Police Department you get to talk to one of them, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They do a thankless job, they dispatch all of our police officers and take all the phone calls. They have to know something about the law and our City ordinances. They talk to people from all walks of life and deal with very stressful situations.

We are very proud to have them here.

Thanks, to Megan, William, Misty, Alisha, our full time staff and a special thanks goes to Linda and Alisha for filling in for the full timers, any time we need them.
