The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a

Flash Flood Warning for Central Eddy County in SE NM until 11pm MDT.

At 802 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Carlsbad, Artesia, Brantley Lake State Park, Avalon, Seven Rivers Airport, Carlsbad North, Whites City, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Lincoln National Forest, Living Desert State Park, Lake Avalon, Cavern City Air Terminal, Lakewood, Dayton and Atoka.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

National Weather Service-Midland has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for SW Eddy County in SE NM. North central Culberson County in SW TX
Until 615 PM CDT/515 PM MDT/.
At 531 PM CDT/431 PM MDT/, a severe thunderstorm was located near McKittrick Canyon, or 10 miles NE of Pine Springs, moving NE at 15 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include... McKittrick Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Large hail, damaging wind, & continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring w/this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

It will be unseasonably cool again today with highs holding in the 80s for most locations. Scattered showers and storms are expected, with the highest chances for rain in the Davis Mountains and Big Bend.
