This is a wonderful example of salvaging and recycling historic materials. Preservation is the original green movement. The materials, labor, and energy invested in constructing older buildings have already been used, resulting in significant carbon savings compared to new construction. Preservation not only safeguards the past but also protects the future.

Congratulations to all CHS 2026 graduates! This calls for a celebration! Check out the Phelps House if you are looking for a graduation party VENUE. May 22, 23, 24 & 29 are available plus June dates. We have many complimentary party items for renter use, includes serveware and decorations. All you need to do is set up the tables and chairs and bring the food and drinks. Discover “Roots of Carthage,” a Celebration of the Maple Leaf City!

What began as a call to local artists to acknowledge 100 years of Carthage on Route 66 resulted in a stunning showcase of over 20, 40” x 40” maple leaf cutouts created in partnership with students from the local tech center.

Dozens of artists submitted sketches that have come to life for the delight of tourists and locals alike.

The community is invited to come see all of the leaves in one location during an art walk on the square before they land in their permanent tourist locations across Carthage.

Presented by the Route 66 Subcommittee of Tourism, this open-road gallery is a curated celebration of art, place, and heritage in Carthage.
