Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. He became a Franciscan in 1907 and devoted his life to fostering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a priest, a publisher and a founder of the "City of the Immaculate." Sentenced to hard manual labor at Auschwitz, he offered his life in exchange for that of an innocent man. He is remembered for his prophetic words, "Hatred is not a creative force. Only love is a creative power."

Saint Maximilian Kolbe, be an example for us in charity and selflessness. Pray for us!

We’re grateful to Haywood Christian Ministry and Healthy Blue for hosting an incredible Summer Community Wellness event on July 17 at Haywood Commons in Waynesville!

Together with other local nonprofits, we connected families in Haywood County to vital resources, health information, and community services. Attendees received free A1C screenings, blood pressure checks, and essential supplies—including diapers, toiletries, and hygiene products—distributed by Catholic Charities. The day was filled with uplifting music from Mix 96.5’s Melanie Wilkinson (our Spirit of Hope emcee!), exciting raffles, and the excitement of a community working together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make a difference.

August is , offering an important reminder to take a meaningful step in planning for the future. Whether you are 18 or 88, creating or updating a legal will helps ensure your wishes are honored, including how your belongings are shared, who will have guardianship of your children, and your wishes for end-of-life care. A properly written will can also make things easier for your loved ones by helping reduce costs and prevent administrative delays.

You can create a legal will with the help of an attorney or a trusted online service. Taking action this month helps ensure your wishes are honored, protects your loved ones, and gives you an opportunity to create a lasting legacy through a planned gift to the Church.

We are grateful for our incredible community partners, Bounty and Soul and UNETE, who make Community Tuesdays at Riverside Baptist Church in Asheville a beacon of hope every week! 🌟

Every Tuesday afternoon, Bounty and Soul arrives with a truck full of fresh, healthy food and dedicated volunteers, while UNETE organizes and promotes resources for everyone who attends.

We've been honored to join in, sharing information about our programs and distributing diapers and essential supplies to families in need. Our longstanding partnership with UNETE has helped us reach and support countless neighbors across western North Carolina. Together with Bounty and Soul, we are committed to serving our community with compassion and dignity.

A house becomes a home through the kindness of a community.

Catholic Charities is grateful for our partnership with St. Therese Catholic Church, whose annual parish rummage sale does more than just help neighbors find great treasures. This year, they chose our Making A House A Home program to receive the unsold furniture and household items, ensuring the donations help new families make their houses into homes.

Our Making A House A Home program helps furnish homes for individuals and families transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing, as well as those experiencing furniture poverty. Essentials many of us take for granted---a bed to sleep in, a table where children can do homework, a couch for family gathering, kitchen utensils--- can make all the difference in creating a safe, welcoming place to call home.

Our program has no dedicated funding source and operates entirely through the generosity of our community. Every piece of donated furniture and every household item helps restore dignity, foster stability, and provide hope for families working toward a brighter future.

Together, with partners like St. Therese Catholic Church, we are building more than furnished homes. We are building hope. 🫂💙

"We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become.
If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we become nothing.
Imitation is not a literal mimicking of Christ, rather it means becoming the image of the beloved, an image disclosed through transformation. This means we are to become vessels of God's compassionate love for others." - Saint Clare of Assisi

Happy Feast of Saint Clare of Assisi! ✨

A woman of humility, wisdom, fierce devotion, and radiant joy, Saint Clare gave everything to follow Christ in simplicity and poverty. Let her words guide you today.

🌟Mission Monday: Meet Joanne

Today we’re shining a spotlight on Joanne, one of our dedicated volunteers who helps make a real difference in Winston-Salem. Through her service at both our food pantry and Wee Care Shoppe, Joanne ensures families receive the support they need with compassion and care. Volunteers like Joanne are the heart of our mission—serving our neighbors, spreading hope, and building a stronger community. Interested in joining her?

🏫 Today is the Feast Day of St. Dominic, “Hound of the Lord” and founder of the Dominican Order.

St. Dominic recognized that the people of his time did not simply need arguments; they needed witnesses whose lives revealed the truth of the Gospel. He therefore embraced a life of prayer, poverty, study and preaching, founding the Order of Preachers to bring the light of Christ into the world.

Our own vocation often begins in the same way. God draws our attention to a particular need, person or community and quietly asks, “Will you give your life for this?”

Through the intercession of St. Dominic, may we become attentive to what God places before us and courageous enough to respond.

Saint Dominic,
Pray for us!
