We’ve got a trail closure to report: A portion of the East Chaska Creek Trail is closed between Woodridge Dr and Weston Ridge Pkwy until further notice.

A hill slide this morning covered a portion of the trail. City crews will be evaluating the cleanup efforts.

As promised, here are more photos from Night to Unite last week. We had a blast visiting almost 50 parties. Thanks to everyone who took some time to hang out with your neighbors and us!

Also, shout out to everyone who donated to Bountiful Basket Food Shelf. Chaska donated 1,810.5 lbs and $ 3,931.96. Congrats to Adelwood and Canyon Rd for finishing 1 and 2 in the neighborhood contest!

About the photos - Ok, we know McGruff is in a lot of them. To be honest, he’s been pretty jealous of Otto the Llama lately, so we wanted to throw him a bone!

“Urban exploring” at the Oak Ridge Hotel & Conference Center in Chaska is not a hobby. It is a crime.

Yesterday (08/06/2026) afternoon, we responded to another trespassing complaint at the former Oak Ridge Hotel & Conference Center. Building security staff reported watching two young men inside the facility through the livestream cameras.

Over the past few years, we have responded to more than 100 calls at the property, and many of them include instances of burglary, trespassing, property damage, and other criminal activity. Let us be direct: this building is private property. It is not abandoned, and it is not open to the public. The property is actively monitored by live surveillance cameras. If you enter this building, you will be identified, located and you will be charged. Depending on the circumstances, that can mean burglary, trespassing, or criminal damage to property. These are charges that have serious consequences.

Beyond the legal consequences, buildings that have not been actively maintained can be dangerous. Deteriorating structures, broken glass, exposed wiring, poor air quality, and no lighting mean that one wrong step can put you in the hospital.

Videos of "urban exploring" make it look harmless. It is not, and it is not legal. Hear us out: a burglary charge is a bad trade for “cool” social media content.

Here’s a quick look at what kept CPD busy in July.

Whether it’s reporting suspicious activity or simply looking out for one another, community partnerships play a huge role in keeping Chaska safe. Thank you to everyone who continues to support that mission alongside us.

Enjoy the dog days of August, Chaska!

Folks, it's me, Otto (don't mind me - it's hot out). We met last week at the Cubs game (I was the only one staying extremely calm about it).

Let me tell you how I got here. Every police llama has an origin story. Mine begins at Wanna Llama, where I was born the most dapper llama in Minnesota. Not my opinion. Just data.

Years passed. I kept my head down. Well, up. Way up. And I built a reputation: never started beef with a good guy. Never spit on anyone who didn't have it coming. Zero drama. Can your coworkers say that?

Then the department came calling. They said, "We need a llama with no drama." And folks, there was only one llama for the job. So here I am. America's first-ever police llama. Big shoes to fill. I don't wear shoes (worked out great).

Now I work side by side with Chaska's finest, helping catch bad guys. My role is mostly surveillance. And therapy. I see everything. I forget nothing. Bad guys hate that. The only thing I don't do is chase, because frankly, I can't stand running.

Beyond that, the job is what you'd expect. I stand around looking for trouble. I boost morale. I judge everyone. And on hot days, they spray me with a hose at the farm. Was I warned about this life? No. Did I remain professional? You already know it.

Over the past five weeks, youth (10th-12th grade) from our community participated in our Teen Community Academy, and we had an incredible time getting to know each of them!

Throughout the academy, participants toured our Public Safety Facility, learned about the equipment and gear our officers use, met members of our detective team, learned about our drone program, traffic stops, and discussed the dangers and impacts of drugs and alcohol.

For our final night, the Chaska Crime Prevention Fund generously sponsored dinner for the group. We wrapped up the academy by putting the students through several scenarios on our simulator, giving them a chance to experience some of the situations our officers may encounter.

A huge thank you to all of the youth who participated in this year’s Teen Community Academy! We hope you had fun, learned something new, and gained a better understanding of what it means to serve our community.

And who knows… maybe one day we’ll see you wearing a Chaska PD uniform!
