Halloween Spirit at SEVTC! 👻👹🎃

Before we announce the winners of the Halloween door and house decorating contests, we would like to thank everyone who participated for their time, energy, and creativity within their displays. Best of luck to those who entered!

Not only do we want to highlight the displays entered in the contests but noticed wonderful costumes worn — some even handmade to resemble pirate boats—at our Halloween Bash. There were games, where employees had to wrap a colleague in colored tissue paper to resemble a mummy and one that looked like Guitar Hero. We thank the staff behind the scenes who made this event happen and hope everyone enjoyed themselves!

This year's Employee of the Quarter recipient is Amanda Kelly, one of many dedicated patient care technicians who works hard to take care of our individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Here's what Amanda's colleagues had to say about her: "Just as she is great with the individuals she serves, she is also helpful to her team. Amanda strives to communicate with her supervisor on any issues or schedule needs ahead of time, which is greatly appreciated."

The Employee Activities and Recognition (EAR) Committee ensures that hard work won't go unnoticed in various ways like facilitating Employee of the Quarter celebrations. Each recipient receives a personalized plaque, a designated parking spot, a letter from the Commissioner, and other perks.

Congrats, Amanda! Thank you for going above and beyond!

A special shoutout to Esther Pearline Charles Jacob, Director of Pharmacy at the Virginia Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), for coming to our facility and recognizing Wanda Edwards during National Pharmacy week! We have such hardworking staff members here, who are critical to the growth and care of our individuals.

During Staff Appreciation Week last month, SEVTC hosted a drawing where two lucky employees would win two pairs of tickets to see Spamalot. One of our residential supervisors Kenya YoungBlood attended last Tuesday's performance with her husband and had a wonderful time.

We had 27 employees enter a drawing by completing a survey, and when asked if she's seen any Broadway shows and what she likes about them, Kenya wrote "I've attended plays since I was a child. I enjoy that it allows a space for make believe to still exist."

Thank you Broadway in Norfolk for your partnership and we hope to collaborate with you next year!
