📚2026 Adult Reading Challenge - An American Classic🇺🇸📚

This Adult Reading Challenge category celebrates the American Classic, stories that have shaped literature and continue to resonate across generations. From sweeping historical epics to powerful personal narratives, these five selections capture the spirit, struggles, and voices of America.
Featuring "Gone with the Wind," "The Color Purple," "The Glass Menagerie," "Uncle Tom’s Cabin," and a collection of poetry by Walt Whitman, this category offers a range of perspectives that define what it means to be a classic.
Check off this category and explore these enduring works. All five titles (and many more American classics) are available for checkout at Selover Public Library.

Selover Library is excited to announce that we are a recipient of an American Library Association (ALA) Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant of $10,000 to improve our services to children with any disability that creates learning challenges!

Selover Library invites children with any disability that creates learning challenges to come in for a one-on-one conversation with our staff!

Such disabilities could include, but are not limited to, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, hearing loss, vision loss, Down syndrome, depression, anxiety, PTSD, mobility disabilities, and cerebral palsy. If you believe that your child has a disability that makes learning more difficult and that your child has ideas of items our library could add that would help make learning easier, we want to speak to your child! These conversations are for children in grades PreK-12. We would like caregivers to attend with children and to help if children require assistance communicating, but please note that we want to hear from the children who will benefit from this grant: “Nothing about us without us!” Teens may attend on their own.

Individual conversations with children will be brief (10-15 minutes) unless your kid is a talker! We are offering a drop-in session anytime between 4:00-6:00 on Tuesday, June 16, in the upstairs of the library. Please ask at the front desk. If your child would like to participate but cannot make this drop-in session, please contact Martha at [director @ seloverlibrary.org] to arrange a time before June 19 to have a conversation. An honorarium in the form of a gift card of up to $50, depending on the number of attendees, will be mailed to the child after the conversation. One honorarium per household.

Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities is an initiative of ALA in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
