UPLIFT takes our name from the Lessons from the Geese story: "As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an 'UPLIFT' for the bird following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% more flying range than if each bird flew alone." The UPLIFT name in all caps is not an acronym, but signifies the lift we hope to provide families while serving our mission of, “Comprehensive support and a

dvocacy for families of children with complex behavioral health challenges and other special health care needs.”

We ASPIRE to complete our vision of HOPE, HEALTH, and WELL-BEING through Advocacy, Support, Prevention, Information, Referral and Education.

As the Wyoming Family Voices State Affiliate, we appreciate and echo this response from our national organization.

Just one week before the 27th anniversary of Olmstead, which affirmed individuals with disabilities' rights to receive services in their homes and community, the Department of Justice released a memo that changes how the federal government looks to interpret this landmark decision. While Olmstead is still the law, the federal government now says that states are not required to provide home- and community-based services.

The history of Family Voices is deeply connected to home- and community-based services. In honor of the anniversary of Olmstead and the rights of the disability community, Family Voices releases this statement in response to the memo, in support of home- and community-based services and family-centered care.
