It’s 1985. Ronald Reagan is the president. The top movie in the box office is Beverly Hills Cop. In Chicago, Harold Washington is the mayor. But in Lincoln Park, a group of concerned neighbors were figuring out how to open a shelter for those facing homelessness in their community.

February 12th, 1985, the doors to what became Lincoln Park Community Shelter were opened with help from Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church, Lincoln Park Presbyterian, St. Clement Catholic Church, and St. Pauls UCC.

As we enter our 40 day countdown to the 40th anniversary of LPCS, there is a lot of history to think about. Everyone who has come through the doors, whether as a guest, volunteer, employee, or any combination of those, is a part of that history. Thousands served in the community, thousands of volunteers keeping the mission alive.

There's still time to give in 2024! In less than 48 hours we will be in a brand new year, so end this one on a high note by donating. Any amount helps us make a difference in the life of our guests, from providing winterwear to keeping the shelter maintained.

Thank you and have a very happy new year! πŸ’šπŸ’œπŸŽ†
