A former vacant lot is now one of Cincinnati's newest spaces for art, creativity, and connection.

Thanks to the leadership of 1001 Colors and supporters like Lauren Hannan Shafer, Hannan ArtPark is helping reimagine what's possible in Walnut Hills. The space reflects the power of arts, culture, and philanthropy to strengthen neighborhoods and build a more vibrant region.

“For a five-year-old, stepping into a great park is like crossing into another world. Sunlight flickers through towering oaks. Colorful mushrooms rise from the forest floor in curious shapes. Spiderwebs stretch between branches in delicate, intricate patterns. And, at just the right time of year, jewelweed, our favorite, dances in the breeze, its spring-loaded seeds waiting for the slightest touch before they fly. Every trip is a new adventure, made possible by generosity.” - Chelsie Walter, Sr. Manager, Content and Creative Strategy, GCF

Thriving communities happen when we work together. On Wednesday, we invited GCF fundholders to join us at Cincinnati ToolBank, where we heard from their CEO, Kat Pepmeyer, and Jerel Stewart, ToolBank Academy Program Coordinator, about their work equipping nonprofits, developing workforce opportunities, and helping strengthen our region through collaboration and access to resources.

Thank you to ToolBank for hosting us and for the impact you're making across our community.

“The Marching Blue and Gold at Walnut Hills High School gives students so much more than a music education. It teaches teamwork, discipline, leadership, and creates a place where every student feels valued and belongs.

Philanthropic support helps ensure every student can participate and experience all that band has to offer. For my son, it's meant finding a place where he feels valued, supported, and truly at home.” - Holly Hankinson, Director, Government Partnerships, GCF

“I love supporting organizations that reflect my personal values or that have invested in me along my own journey. But as a parent, I am increasingly focused on a different question: What opportunities will be available to my children and future generations? Philanthropy has the power to create, expand, and strengthen opportunities, whether they are needs we can identify today or possibilities we have yet to imagine.” -Stephanie Temeles, Senior Gift Planning Advisor, GCF

What does your philanthropy create space for in your community?

Philanthropy is deeply personal. It reflects the causes, people, and possibilities closest to your heart. We’re inviting our community to pause and consider how generosity creates space for more.

A strong team starts with understanding what each person brings to the table. Yesterday, the GCF team came together for our staff retreat, where we explored our individual and collective strengths through the CliftonStrengths assessment with Valerie Plis of Strength Builders.

We wrapped up the day with friendly competition at Game Show Battle Rooms, putting our collaboration, communication, and teamwork to the test.

What could $10,000 make possible?

That's the question we ask our nonprofit partners each year through A Special Gift. Their answers inspire us and showcase the creativity, compassion, and hope that help our region thrive. Give by December 31 and GCF will match gifts up to $2,500 per featured program to help turn these visions into reality.

GCF’s Robert Killins Jr. is known for many things around town: his commitment to community impact, his ability to make just about anyone smile, and, of course, his impeccable sense of style.

So, are we surprised he caught ImpactAlpha’s eye as one of SOCAP’s best dressed? Not one bit.

See what Robert had to say when asked: “What does ‘Power in Place’ mean to you?” https://impactalpha.com/best-dressed-at-socap-what-power-in-place-means-to-agents-of-impact/
