NEWS RELEASE: MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER HOURSLONG STANDOFF
PITTSBURG, N.H. — One person was safely taken into custody early this morning following an hourslong standoff in the North Country.
On Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop F barracks received a report of a domestic violence assault occurring in Pittsburg. While responding, Troopers requested assistance from the United States Border Patrol to help secure the scene. When Border Patrol agents arrived, they heard a gunshot. Additional resources, including the State Police SWAT Unit and members of the Colebrook Police Department, were requested.
Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated that the subject who fired the shot, later identified as Derrick Chase, 32, of Pittsburg, was barricaded inside a garage on the property. A woman and several children were also determined to be in a nearby home. As additional law enforcement personnel arrived, coordinated efforts were made to safely evacuate the woman and children from the scene. Officers also worked to secure the area and temporarily closed nearby roads while awaiting specialized resources.
At approximately 4:13 a.m., Chase peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. He has been charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, as well as misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, and obstructing the report of a crime or injury. He refused the services of a bail commissioner and was transported to the Coös County Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to be arraigned today.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Members of 45th Parallel EMS and the Pittsburg Fire Department also assisted State Police at the scene. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Trooper Jeremy Brann at (603) 846-3333 or [email protected].
