Celebrating the OTPTAT Board's history on its 50th Anniversary, today we recognize the O & P profession. With the passage of House Bill 49 of the 132nd General Assembly, the board took on oversight of orthotics, prosthetics, and pedorthics in 2018. These professions are governed by Chapter 4779 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Today's celebration of the OTPTAT Board 50th Anniversary recognizes the athletic trainers! With the enactment of Senate Bill 80 in 1990, Chapter 4755. of the Ohio Revised Code was amended to include the Athletic Trainers Section, thus creating the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board, as it is known today.

Continuing on with our celebration of the OTPTAT Board 50th Anniversary, the Board's mission expanded in 1977 when physical therapists joined occupational therapy, creating the Ohio Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Board. Physical therapist assistants began to be licensed as a part of the 1977 legislation, which established the Physical Therapy Section.

Today, the Ohio OTPTAT Board is celebrating 50 years of protecting the public through efficient, fair regulation! In 1976, the 111th Ohio General Assembly established the Ohio Occupational Therapy Board for the purpose of licensing and regulating occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants within Ohio. That legislation was effective on August 27, 1976.

Stay tuned over the next few weeks for more on the history of how the Board came to be what it is today, regulating over 37,500 professionals in the state of Ohio!
