For Rachel Lapidus

For Rachel Lapidus On July 27th, 2011 Rachel went into Cardiac Arrest. We were told Rachel would never walk or talk again. Look at her now! This all changed on July 27th 2011.

Rachel was a perfectly healthy 19 year old girl. She had graduated high school and was in college full time plus working a full time job. She had a boyfriend and drove a nice little yellow convertible. Rachel has always been a loving person growing up. Especially to her little brother who she always had an awesome bond with. She loves people, she loves animals, and would go out of her way to try t

o help who ever and where ever she could. Rachel had dreams of being a Special Education teacher and all this was taken away one July night. While in the middle of a heated argument with her cousin Rachel all of a sudden stiffened up and dropped. her heart just stopped. We performed CPR within 4 minutes of the incident but Rachel's heart did not start up for almost 9 minutes. Because of this Rachel is suffering from an Anoxic Brain Injury (Lack of Oxygen). When this first happened we were told there was no chance for quality of life because she was down too long. As parents, you would not want to hear something like that about your child. So we fought for her survival with her. We pushed for rehab and after almost a week of arguing with the doctors and Insurance companies finally, Rachel was moved to Rehab Hospitals of Indiana. This approval from the Insurance company was for 3 days. 72 days later Rachel walked out of that rehab and her recovery still continues today. Rachel is a miracle and continues to amaze the doctors who we are all trying to prove wrong. Rachel now has an amazing opportunity ahead of her. Rachel qualifies for HBOT Therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment which enhances the body's natural healing process by inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled. It is used for a wide variety of treatments usually as a part of an overall medical care plan. Under normal circumstances, oxygen is transported throughout the body only by red blood cells. With HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of the body's fluids, the plasma, the central nervous system fluids, the lymph, and the bone and can be carried to areas where circulation is diminished or blocked. In this way, extra oxygen can reach all of the damaged tissues and the body can support its own healing process. The increased oxygen greatly enhances the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria, reduces swelling and allows new blood vessels to grow more rapidly into the affected areas. It is a simple, non-invasive and painless treatment. After the phone consult we were told that RACHEL IS TREATABLE! Her cognitive problems, speech problems, even some of the physical problems are all treatable with HBOT

As parents, after what we have been through to hear those words and would again do ANYTHING we can to make this happen so we are asking for you to help be the miracle for Rachel Lapidus. She spent 10 days on full life support and 72 days in intensive inpatient rehab at Rehab Hospital of Indianapolis. She now faces years of outpatient rehab to regain basic self-care skills. Rachel's parents, Randy and Robin Lapidus, have been working very hard with Rachel and their efforts are paying off. Even though Rachel has a long way to go, her recovery so far has been miraculous. Help support the Lapidus family in their time of need. You can donate by going to www.gofundme.com/MiracleForRachel

Rachel was not a fan of getting up early this morning. She grumbled and wanted 5 more minutes. Thankfully I was able to get her moving and we made it to her Dr appointment in plenty of time.
Her appointment went well, and she got the med change we talked about. The Dr agreed that she's been on the same dosage for a long time and a little increase should be what she needs. She will go back in about 6 weeks to see if the Dr thinks it's the correct dosage.

This evening Rachel and I ran our route. Even though it was a little slow, Rachel still enjoyed seeing friends and familiar faces.

Rachel is excited about tomorrow being the first night of the fair. She went to bed talking about what foods she wants to eat, but is still trying to watch her carbs. She is hoping Erica's Deli is there because she loves their chicken on a stick.

Rachel was excited for REACH today because they were going to the pool. She had all her things packed and ready to go right after breakfast.

Apparently her suit didn't fit as well as we thought though. Thankfully they had a back up suit that fit her amd she enjoyed the pool time. She did say it was a little chilly though.

When I picked her up we went to Walmart and got this cute suit for her thay fits better. She also picked up a cute swim skirt that she can wear with the other suit.

Our plans for dinner tonight got changed last minute, and rescheduled for next weekend.
We did end up going out tonight and just as we finished eating Neil and Madeline and all the boys were getting seated. Rachel loved seeing everyone and chatted with Neil for a few before we headed home ahead of the storms.

Rachel has been sound asleep through all the thunder and lightening, so hopefully she won't be a bear to get up in the morning for an early Dr appointment.

Rachel had a quiet morning.
She hung out at home with Dad while I went and took care of a small stop with the ice cream truck.
After I came home, Rachel informed me she is going swimming tomorrow. She wanted to get her suit out, and make sure it fir once we finished lunch. She was so excited on how well it fit her. She even modeled it through the house before taking it off and getting her swim bag ready for tomorrow.

We ran our route tonight and Rachel had fun chatting with customers.

Once we got home, Rachel was ready for supper and bed. She did stay up and watch a movie before calling it a night but as soon as the movie ended she was out.

She's looking forward to swimming tomorrow so we have our fingers crossed that the rain holds out.

Rachel said she had a good time at REACH today. They went on a lunch outing which she always loves. She said she picked Jaxbys and enjoyed her chicken.

This evening we headed down to Donner to hand out popsicles to all the kids that received a life jacket from the Lemonade Bros. Rachel ended up spending most of the time inside where they were giving out the lifejackets. I knew she was safe and she knew how to get back to the truck if she needed anything.

When we came home Dad had supper going so Rachel and I had a little time to relax before supper.
Rachel said she is sleeping in tomorrow since we don't have much to before we run our route tomorrow. She was out pretty quick tonigntso I have a feeling sleeping might not actually happen.

Rachel did get some sleep last night and started her day out in a pretty good mood.
Throughout the daybhowever, she started thinking back to her evening at chippendales, and the fact she couldn't do the steps to actually go on stage. She had her grumpy moments in and off and was even still grumbling when she went to bed tonight.
This isn't the first time we have noticed things bothering her and changing her mood lately. We will be speaking with her team of Dr's about a possible med change to see if that could have a positive effect.

She is finally sleeping and hopefully she will be in a better mood tomorrow.

Rachel slept well last night but was still bummed about not being able to go up the steps to get a photo op. She was worried all morning that the staff that went with her was mad because of her not being able to go up the steps. We assured her no one was mad, but throughout the day she was still upset about it.
Thankfully we made it through the farmers market without any tears though.
From the farmers market we had an event at Aaron's. Rachel got to enjoy her favorite quesadilla from Antojitos Rosita and got to chat with some friends for a while.
This evening while Rachel and I went to grab supper to take to the park, I received pictures of the Chippendale dancers from last night. Rachel was quick to show me which one was her favorite. I could tell she was bummed about not getting her picture with them so I went to work with ChatGPT. The whole time I was working in it Rachel kept asking what I was doing but I wouldn't show her until I got it to what I wanted. This might be AI generated, but when I showed it to her the smile she got was worth it. It might not be an actual picture taken of her with the men, but she loves it and said now she has a picture to remember the night. She even wants me to print it and frame it for her.

Tomorrow we have some errands to run and I'm sure Rachel will be ready to do those right after brunch.

Rachel was up before the alarm even went off this morning. She was ready to get to REACH and was super excited about her outing tonight.
She had a pretty quiet day at REACH but had fun. After REACH she headed out for her one on one outing she has been looking forward to in months.
They stopped for an early dinner at McCalisters, then headed to Brown County Music Center for a night of Chipendales. Rachel said it was fun and she said she was yelling a lot, especially when the blonde was dancing.
At the end there was a photo op, but unfortunately that required going up on stage, and we all know how Rachel struggles with steps. She of course got upset with herself and worried that the others would be mad at her, which is never the case.
She was very tired when she got home, but did tell us that one of the other girls got some pictures for her. I'm sure we will get those Monday when she goes TO REACH.

Tomorrow is another busy day. Rachel has already reminded me that she will have to do a milkshake delivery at 11.

Rachel had a very quiet day today. After breakfast she did manage to get the animals take care of and get her laundry basket to her room.

We ran a couple errands, the Rachel relaxed while we got the truck ready for a small event this evening.

Rachel was helpful at the event when I needed something from the freezer. In between customers we talked about Hee outing she is going on tomorrow night. She is so excited and is hoping they get some good pictures.

Rachel called it a night early tonight. I guess she wants to make sure she is well rested for tomorrow because we aren't sure what time she will come home tomorrow evening.

Rachel had a fun day at REACH.
She said they stayed inside today, and played indoor games because it was so hot. She told me they played bingo, as she pulled out a DVD of Kindergarten Cop to add to her movie collection.
On the ride home Rachel asked how Dad was. I told her his throat was a little sore and he was pretty tired. His procedure went well and the Dr. said he didn't see anything of real concern.
This evening, while Randy rested Rachel and I went to dinner with some friends. It's always a fun evening and if Randy would have been feeling better he would have joined us. On the way home Rachel said there's next month for Dad to come with us. She's already thinking where we should go.

Rachel's getting rested up for a morning of running errands, and chores, then an evening at a small event.

06/10/2026

Short and sweet tonight.

Rachel was pretty helpful today. She helped make the grocery list after breakfast and actually did most of the shopping when we went to the store and only asked for help getting something off a high shelf.

At home, she helped get some laundry going and made sure all the animals were fed. She loves these little fish and usually feeds them as soon as she gets up.

This evening, we went downtown and visited with the Lemonade Bros while they were at a blood drive. The youngest Bro loves Rachel and was stuck by her side for a while.
Rachel went to bed tonight talking about the fair and her one on one outing this coming Friday. After a million questions she finally called it a night. We are prepared for more questions the closet it gets to Friday, and I'm sure she will have stories to tell after Friday.
