The man behind the badge

Before I was ever called Chief, I was taught the importance of respecting people, working hard, and keeping God first.

After nearly 30 years in law enforcement, one thing has never changed: my heart for serving people.

I believe in holding criminals accountable. I believe in giving young people a chance. I believe in standing up for what is right, even when it is not popular.

The badge represents authority, but the heart behind it determines the kind of leader you become.

I am not perfect. I am still learning, still growing, and still answering the call to serve.

The mission continues.

Rest Well, My Friend, My Mentor, My Brother. 💙🖤🙏🏾

Some losses hit a little differently, especially when you lose someone who was more than just a friend. Today, my heart is heavy as I reflect on the life and legacy of former Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones.

Sheriff Jones wasn’t just a fellow law enforcement officer to me. He was my friend, my mentor, and someone I had tremendous love and respect for. His wisdom, his friendship, and the lessons he shared with me throughout the years are things I will carry for the rest of my life.

In this profession, you meet a lot of people, but very few leave a lasting impression on your life. Sheriff Jones was one of those rare individuals. He understood that wearing the badge was about more than authority. It was about service, sacrifice, integrity, and loving the people you were called to protect.

As a Police Chief, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about the decisions you make. It’s also about the people who pour into you along the way. And I thank God for allowing Sheriff Jones to be one of those people in my life.

The badge may come off, the title may fade, but the impact of a good man will live on forever.

To his family, I extend my deepest condolences and prayers. Thank you for sharing him with so many of us who were blessed to know him.

My friend, your work here is done. You have fought your fight, and you have finished your race. I will forever cherish our friendship, your guidance, and the memories we shared.

Rest easy, Sheriff. I’ll take it from here. Until we meet again, my friend. 💙

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Today, I had the honor of taking a picture with a strong woman Hudson Hudson whose son lost his life to domestic violence. I admire her courage and determination to continue fighting for her son. Though he is no longer here to speak for himself, she is making sure his voice is still heard.

Her story reminds us that domestic violence affects men, too. Every victim deserves to be heard, taken seriously, and protected.

Love should never leave you afraid, bruised, or fighting for your life. Love is not supposed to hurt.

Please join me in praying for this mother and every family carrying the pain of domestic violence. We must have the courage to speak up and look out for one another.
