This is Bill. He resides in Johnson County and for his 100th birthday his wish was to come back to Council Grove and eat at the Hays House like he did a few years ago. Thankfully a group made that happen, and I got an invite. After a red carpet welcome to town and a declined jail cell, we sat down for lunch. I asked Bill what the secret was to be a hundred years old, and to be so independent. His answer, the condensed version as he called it, was "Keep the faith and keep moving." It was truly a pleasure Bill.

It's time to get ready for another school year. Tomorrow will be transition day, and Thursday will be the first day of school. Officers will be running radar in the school zones and watching for school bus stop sign violations. We would rather not see any. Start allowing yourselves a little more time in the mornings, take a little breather, and watch for the increased traffic including pedestrians, bicycles, scooters, ect. Have a great week.

Under Kansas law (K.S.A. 8-1556), all drivers traveling in both directions must completely stop for a stopped school bus displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm. Drivers must stay stopped until the red lights turn off and the stop arm retracts. Violating this law results in fines and court costs exceeding $420.
