You are invited to come to the Home Composting Workshop on Monday, October 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Newton County Agriculture Center (120 FFA-FHA Camp Rd., Covington, GA 30014)! Register at https://newtagcomm.fillout.com/2627events. The first 50 registrants will receive free compost bins. Turn kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost for your garden. Join us for an interactive presentation and hands-on workshop where you'll learn the basics of home composting, including what materials to use, how to balance "greens" and "browns", and tips for keeping your compost pile healthy and odor-free. This workshop is presented by the Newton County Extension office in partnership with Newton County Solid Waste Management, Sustainable Newton, and Keep Newton Beautiful.

The Newton County Solid Waste Management Authority (NCSWMA), Keep Newton Beautiful (KNB), and the City of Covington invite Newton County residents to bring tires (AND PAINT & ELECTRONICS!) to the FREE Disposal Day event at the Hazelbrand Road Convenience Center (11585 Hazelbrand Rd.) on Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. Each vehicle will be limited to 10 tires and 5 paint cans. No tires with rims and no commercial tires will be accepted. No TV's or CRT Monitors will be accepted. This recycling event will be for Newton County residents only, and staff will ask participants to present identification and proof of residency.

District 4 Community Cleanup--Saturday, October 17

All District 4 residents, neighbors, and communities, including Nelson Heights, Spring Hill, and others are encouraged to join Commissioner J. C. Henderson to clean up litter and trash in our community. Participants from other districts are also welcome! Cleanup participants can pick up free supplies and breakfast at 9 a.m. at the park across the street from Nelson Heights Community Center; go pick up roadside litter; and then place bagged trash in the box provided at 7200 Lassiter Street (until 3 p.m.).

Join Keep Newton Beautiful, GWF, friends, and neighbors at Longhorn Steakhouse of Covington at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, for the Newton County Rivers Alive kickoff event. Participants can pick up free T-shirts, supplies, and breakfast (while supplies last). Then volunteers will pick up litter in and around lakes, rivers, and streams across the County. KNB invites you to organize your club, neighbors, church, business, or school groups to participate. Individual participants are also welcome. Children under 12 must be supervised by responsible adults. Everyone is responsible for his/own transportation to and from the park and cleanup sites.
