The Gavins Point Dam Crest Road will be closed for maintenance June 9, from 0730 to 1500.

The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center will open for the summer tomorrow, May 21st. It will be open 9am to 5pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Crest Road will be closed Wednesday, May 20,2026 for mowing and trimming along the roadway. Access will be maintained over the spillway and powerhouse by the Toe Road and Ramp Road.

The Natural Resource Section is looking for a volunteer to work as campground host in Nebraska Tailwaters campground or as a outside maintenance volunteer. If you are interested, please contact Park Ranger David Mines at 402-667-2544.

Last Friday, Gavins Point Project and the Southeast Dakota Prescribed Burn Association conducted a prescribed burn at the Training D**e Day Use Area. The goal of the burn was to improve pollinator habitat on USACE lands, and serve as a practice burn for the association crew members.

Contractors are preparing to place concrete on a volunteer pad and pad #3 in Nebraska Tailwaters campground. Natural Resource Manager Justin Scholl and Operations Project Manager Randall "Scott" Lynn adjusting the forks on the front end loader so Outside Maintenance Equipment Operator Bill Ernst can relocate a shed. Pad #3 will be cured and ready for visitors when Nebraska Tailwaters opens May 14th.

Two new employees started yesterday at Gavins Point Project. Randall "Scott" Lynn is the new Operations Project Manager and Amanda Mauel is the new Lewis and Clark Visitor Center Manager. Help us welcome them to the project.

The Gavins Point Dam Crest Road will be closed April 28 2026 from 0700-1530 for testing of emergency generator to operate a spillway gate. This is part of our periodic inspection of the dam.

03/18/2026

Starting Friday 20th March 2026, Gavins Point Dam will be releasing water through the spillway, to the target discharge of 24,500 CFS by Sunday March 22nd. This volume of water would normally go through the powerhouse, but unit #1 is currently down for service until April 23rd. During spillway discharge all boats must remain below the large red restricted signs in the tailrace.
