There is nothing like starting the day by running a 911 scene flights with our friends in Dixie County! 🚁🚑 From the initial call to the transition of care, seamless communication and teamwork make all the difference for our patients. Bringing ICU-level care to the scene wouldn’t be possible without skilled patient care providers and collaboration of our ground partners, like the incredible crews in Dixie County. We’re proud to work alongside such dedicated teams! 💙🧡

Our department couldn’t be more blessed to work alongside our brothers and sisters in law enforcement. The teamwork, partnership, and camaraderie we share with both the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office and Cross City Police Department, are a true testament to our department motto: “One Team, One Mission.”💙💚🚒🚑🚓

On the evening of August 10, 2026, Dixie County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in Old Town after receiving a report of a 62-year-old woman who had been found unresponsive and not breathing.

Sergeant James Smith, who was the closest law enforcement unit, immediately responded to the residence. Upon arrival, Sergeant Smith and the woman’s husband removed her from the bathtub and moved her to the living room, where Sergeant Smith immediately began performing CPR.

As Sergeant Smith continued lifesaving efforts, Deputy Brandon Smith relayed the patient’s condition and medical status to Dixie County Fire Rescue while they were en route. During CPR, the woman began intermittently showing signs of life, including shallow breathing and a faint pulse, before becoming unresponsive again. Sergeant Smith continued CPR as needed until Dixie County Fire Rescue arrived and took over her care.

The patient was ultimately flown by helicopter to Shands Hospital for further treatment.

We are incredibly thankful to share the best part of this story: she survived.

Sergeant Smith later followed up with the family and learned that she was doing well, and expected to make a full recovery.

Dixie County Fire Rescue Firefighter/Paramedic Blake Watson credited the quick response and actions of Sergeant Smith and Deputy Smith with not only providing critical care before EMS arrived, but also giving DCFR important information about the patient’s condition so crews could arrive prepared with the equipment they needed.

This is what serving a community is all about.

When seconds mattered, Sergeant Smith acted. Deputy Smith communicated. Dixie County Fire Rescue arrived prepared. Together, their quick response, training, communication, and teamwork helped give one of our citizens another chance at life.

We are proud of Sergeant James Smith and Deputy Brandon Smith for their actions that evening, and we are grateful for our partners at Dixie County Fire Rescue and the medical professionals who continued her care.

Most importantly, we are thankful that this story has a happy ending. 💚

UPDATE: Suwannee Lumber Mill Fire🔥

The fire is currently under control, and crews remain on scene working to fully extinguish remaining hot spots and ensure the area is safe. Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all agencies involved, the fire was contained to the kiln and did not spread to any other parts of the facility.

We are also thankful to report that no injuries were sustained by mill staff or responding firefighters during this incident.

🚨 HAPPENING NOW 🚨

Around 9AM Dixie County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched and are currently on scene at the Suwannee Lumber Mill actively battling a fire involving the dry kiln.

Our firefighters are working diligently alongside our mutual aid partners to bring the incident under control. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Please keep all of the responding crews in your thoughts and prayers as they work to safely protect lives and property.

Today, Dixie County Fire Rescue had the privilege of visiting Camp Amigo, hosted by Camp Anderson. Camp Amigo is an incredible camp dedicated to burn survivors, providing them with the opportunity to build confidence and create unforgettable memories in a safe and fun environment.

Our crews were honored to spend the day with these amazing campers, giving them the opportunity to explore our fire apparatus, meet firefighters and first responders, and learn about the equipment we use to protect our community. One of the biggest highlights of the day was welcoming AirLife 68, whose crew gave campers an up close look at the medical helicopter and shared the important role they play in emergency medical care.

This special day would not have been possible without the incredible teamwork of our partner agencies. A sincere thank you to Cross City Fire Department, Chiefland Fire Rescue, Fanning Springs Fire Rescue, the Florida Forest Service, and AirLife 68 for taking the time to help create an unforgettable experience for these children.

To the campers of Camp Amigo: thank you for reminding us what courage and determination truly look like.
Together, we made memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️🚒🚁

Weather Update – Tropical Depression Two

Dixie County Fire Rescue is closely monitoring Tropical Depression Two, which has formed in the Gulf of America.

At this time, the current forecast indicates that only some of the system’s outer rain bands are expected to affect our area. While no significant impacts are anticipated at this time, conditions can change, and we encourage everyone to stay weather aware.

Our crews will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as new information becomes available. We encourage residents to follow Dixie County Fire Rescue for the latest official updates and preparedness information.
