When Nature Calls: Big Maple Lake Comfort Station Dedication!
Last week, we decided to have a little fun while proudly dedicating the new restroom at Deep River County Park.
This vital addition to the Big Maple Lake section of the park was funded through a generous, heartfelt donation from longtime resident and dedicated park advocate, Bill Modrak. Sadly, Mr. Modrak passed away before the restroom could be officially opened, but we were incredibly honored to have his family join us for the "ribbon" cutting. And yes—that is toilet paper you see!
The celebration didn't stop there. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed some perfectly on-theme refreshments—lemonade and brownies—generously donated by the Strack & Van Til in Hobart. Then children joined our park naturalist for a hilarious and educational storytime exploring the "fascinating" world of s**t (wildlife p**p).
It might seem a little silly to throw a party for a restroom, but we believe in celebrating every aspect of what makes our parks welcoming and the hard work staff put into our parks. Most importantly, we wanted to showcase the incredible impact that a single dedicated resident can have on a community.
Thank you to the Modrak family, Strack & Van Til, and everyone who came out to celebrate with us.
