Units have cleared the call on Hwy KK. There may still be residual smoke in the area.

Thanks to all of our mutual aid partners for assisting on this fire. The cause is undetermined and this time and was not from any burning being done.

Cuba fire and additional mutual aid depts are working a large brush fire, in the area of HWY KK and Fox Springs. Please use caution and avoid the area if possible.

Dry air and gusty winds will result in erratic fire behavior across central, east-central, and southeast Missouri on Saturday. Leave burning to the professionals and be sure to extinguish any open flames!

We would like to remind everyone who does control burning that you need to contact Crawford County 911 and give them the address where the burn is located and a name and number of the responsible party. Crews have responded to numerous reports of fire only to find control burns. This ties up resources chasing these calls. Area departments have been running non stop to calls the last few days. We ask that everyone take precautions if doing any burning.

This morning Cuba Fire was requested to assist with getting 2 horses out of a pond after they had walked out on the snow covered ice. Personnel were able to break a path and lead the horses out of the water. The horses were checked by a local veterinarian and found the horses to be in good condition. Great job by fire personnel in cold conditions and a huge thanks to Veterinarian KC Swope for responding and providing assistance.
The horses were taken to a dry barn and were doing well.

Well now that we have finally got through all the guessing games on what the incoming storm is going to do now it’s time to prepare. While we are going to see a few inches of snow the more concerning issues is going to be the extreme cold along with it.
Now is the time to make sure heating appliances are working properly and kept away from combustible items.
If you don’t have to get out this weekend it would be a good time to catch up on those television shows you have been putting off watching.
As always area first responders will be ready for whatever comes our way but remember response times will increase due to icy roads and slick conditions. And always slow down for conditions and use caution around emergency crews working.
This extreme cold affects our operations as well with freezing equipment the impact on personnel from exposure.
