The Allegany County Animal Shelter was the first No-Kill municipal shelter in the state of Maryland and is run by the ACAS Management Foundation. Lost animals are held 4 days until their owner brings them back home. You will see pictures of all the adoptable cats and dogs, and be informed when they find their "forever homes". ❤️🐾 Happy Tails, Abraham! 🐾❤️

After patiently waiting for his forever home, Abraham’s day has finally arrived! He is especially lucky because he has a new human sister who will get to grow up alongside him. We can already imagine the adventures, laughter, snuggles, and countless memories these two will share over the years. 🥰🐶👧

His adopter also took advantage of our Honoring our Heroes Program, through which we waive adoption fees for first responders, veterans, and active service members (with an approved application). It’s just a small way for us to say "thank you" for their dedication and courage and the services they provide to our community. 🇺🇸

Congratulations, Abraham! Your forever family was worth the wait. We wish you and your new sister a lifetime of happiness and adventures.

Taki is a 50 pound, two-year-old terrier mix who is ready to find his forever home! ❤️

This handsome boy would thrive with an active family who will give him plenty of opportunities to exercise, explore, and have fun. He LOVES toys and games! After getting out the initial energy, he is ready to snuggle and relax next to his favorite people.

Taki knows numerous commands. He’s a smart boy who is treat-driven and eager to learn (and please his people).

🐶 When it comes to other dogs, Taki has been somewhat dog selective, so a meet-and-greet would be required. 🐱 Cats? Taki doesn’t pay much attention to them, which is always a great start.

If you’re looking for an energetic, affectionate boy who wants nothing more than to be part of a family, Taki may be your guy! 🥰

Regardless of breed, size, age, or background, today belongs to each and every dog. 🐾💛

To the puppies just beginning their journey, the seniors with gray around their muzzles, the tiny lap dogs, the big goofy pups, the purebreds, the mixed breeds, the couch potatoes, and the adventure seekers — Happy National Dog Day!

Today we celebrate the unconditional love, loyalty, laughter, and companionship dogs bring into our lives every single day.

And for the dogs still waiting in shelters for someone to call their own, we hope today brings them one step closer to finding the family they deserve.

🚨 BOTTLE BABY FOSTER NEEDED ASAP! 🚨

We have two tiny kittens, estimated to be only about 2 days old, who are in need of an experienced bottle baby foster.

At this age, these little ones require around-the-clock care, frequent feedings, warmth, and help with stimulation. They are completely dependent on their caregiver.

🐾 Meet Bruno!🐾

We recently introduced you to Sabbath, and today we'd like you to meet her brother, Bruno. He is a handsome, 4-year-old Mastiff who has come such a long way. He was seized from a home where he was severely neglected, but just look at him now! He is beginning to look so healthy, strong, and oh so handsome 🥰

Bruno's personality is just as wonderful as his looks. He is a gentle giant who knows numerous commands, walks beautifully on a leash, and absolutely loves being with people. He has lived with both cats and dogs. He is VERY treat motivated, which makes working with him so much fun! 🦴

We love spying on Bruno and Sabbath when they snuggle. These two share such a special bond, and Bruno adores her more than anything. ❤️

We are so excited about the progress they have made and their future prospects. They deserve a loving home filled with comfort, kindness, and plenty of snacks. Could you be the person who gives it to them?
