E-BIKE SAFETY: BECAUSE “I’M FINE!” IS NOT A SAFETY PLAN

E-bikes are fun, fast, and a great way to get around—but they can also pick up speed a LOT quicker than your old-school bicycle. Before you hit the road, trail, or neighborhood, keep these tips in mind:

WEAR THE HELMET.
Yes, even if you’re “just going around the neighborhood.” (Your brain would like to remain fully operational, thank you very much.)

FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD.
Stop at signs and signals, ride in the same direction as traffic, and use proper hand signals when turning (yes, you need to follow the same rules as other vehicles.)

BE SEEN.
Wear bright or reflective clothing and use front/rear lights when riding in low-light conditions. Just because YOU can see the car doesn’t mean the driver has seen YOU.

CHECK YOUR RIDE.
Before taking off, check your tires, brakes, handlebars, and overall equipment. If your brakes are questionable, today is not the day to discover how good your emergency stopping skills are.

PUT THE PHONE DOWN.
No texting, scrolling, or trying to film the perfect TikTok while riding. Eyes on the road. Hands on the handlebars.

ONE RIDER PER BIKE.
Unless your e-bike is specifically designed for more than one person, leave the passenger at home.

CHARGE THAT BATTERY SAFELY.
Use the manufacturer-approved charger, follow the charging instructions, and NEVER charge your e-bike while you're sleeping or away from home. Don't use modified or damaged batteries.

DRIVERS: SHARE THE ROAD.
Keep an eye out for cyclists, especially at intersections, driveways, and when turning. Give bicyclists plenty of space when passing.

And remember…

You don't have to be the fastest person on the block. You just need to make it home.

Stay safe, Paulding!

Good morning, Paulding County! This is your morning forecast for August 28, 2026. 7:45am

We’re starting the day at 71° and will make our way to a high near 89°. Humidity will remain high today. As much as I hate to say it, the hot weather will stick around into next week. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing signs of more comfortable temperatures soon!

Today will be mostly sunny with calm winds, eventually shifting out of the east at 5mph.

The chance of a thunderstorm is isolated, but we’ll still be watching for any development later this evening.

(Original Post) We know many of you received an Alert notification just before 4:00 AM this morning, so we want to provide an update on the search that has been underway overnight.

Just before 9:00 PM Wednesday evening, family members reported that 9-year-old Chloe Day could not be located at her home.

Responding deputies began searching the area and notified detectives, who also responded to assist. The Sheriff’s Office deployed additional resources throughout the night, including multiple K-9 teams and EMA CERT volunteers, as crews continued an extensive search of the surrounding area.

During the investigation, detectives determined that circumstances were met for a unique Alert feature for the Paulding area called the Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS).

As of 5:40 AM, Chloe has not been located, and the search remains active.

Chloe Day is a 9-year-old white female with dirty blonde hair. She is approximately 5’0” and 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing black pants, a gray shirt, black Converse shoes, and carrying a green backpack.

If you see Chloe or have information that could assist investigators in locating her, please call 911 or contact the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (770) 443-3047.
