Visit Damascus, Virginia

Visit Damascus, Virginia Damascus, Virginia, Trail Town USA is a beautiful small town destination at the heart of the Virginia Creeper Trail and Appalachian Trail.

Walkable and pet-friendly downtown. Gateway to Mount Rogers High Country. Home of Appalachian Trail Days Festival. Damascus is a small town with a big claim to fame: Seven nationally known trails intersect within our town limits, making Damascus "Trail Town USA". In fact, the simple act of taking a stroll downtown means interacting with at least one of our trail systems in some way or another. Tha

nks to the efforts of our community - local government, dedicated staff, scores of volunteers, and residents - we've found ways to turn these trails and our other outdoor recreation resources into a source of local pride and community revitalization. We cherish the lifestyle that this affords us. It’s the sounds of families enjoying the Virginia Creeper Trail. It’s the creativity found in our downtown artisans. It’s the intermingling of cultures as the hikers signal the Spring-time with their arrival on the Appalachian Trail. It’s the taste of the signature beer at our local microbrewery. It’s the inspiration of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in our backyard. It’s the conversations, the sharing of stories and shaping of memories, and the smiles of a welcoming community. The Damascus lifestyle is adventurous and creative, yet relaxed. It’s a place where you can be super-active (ultramarathons, anyone?), or where you can slow down to reconnect with nature, rejuvenate, and find your inner peace. It's a place where you can take time to make memories with friends and family. Most importantly, this is a place where you can find your own path. We cherish this lifestyle, and know you will too. Big news to start the weekend! The Virginia Creeper Trail Conservancy is kicking off a stewardship campaign alongside Kiewit, which will match the first $10,000.

☀️The new Virginia Creeper Trail Stewardship Fund will be used for projects that protect and enhance the trail experience, including:
- Routine and deferred maintenance
- Infrastructure repairs
- Trail surface improvements
- Signage
- Safety enhancements
- Accessibility improvements
- Environmental stewardship activities

☀️From Irene Jasper, Conservancy president:
“This fund is an investment in the future of the Virginia Creeper Trail and in the economic future of our region. The trail contributes approximately $61 million annually to Southwest Virginia's economy, supporting local businesses, jobs, and communities. With Kiewit’s matching gift, donors have an opportunity to double their impact and help sustain one of our region’s most important outdoor and economic assets.”

How exciting! A big thank you to Kiewit and all donors for investing in the future of the Virginia Creeper Trail!

One seriously fun day in Damascus! Sign up now for the Damascus Festival of Miles, October 2-3.

🎸 Run. Play a Set. Walk the Dog. Win the Race. 🏃‍♂️🐕

Only at the Damascus Festival of Miles. 😂

Last year, our friend Joe showed us exactly what this event is all about.

Joe signed up for the 12-Hour Race… but apparently running for 12 hours wasn’t enough for him.

Over the course of the day, Joe:
- Ran miles on the course
- Stopped racing long enough to take the stage and play with his band, The Deer Run Drifters
- Took a break to walk his dog
- Jumped BACK into the race
- And somehow finished the day as our 1st Place Overall Male in the 12-Hour!

Absolutely incredible. (We love you, Joe!)

But one of our favorite things about our races is that Joe’s story isn’t the only story. Every year, every race, every distance, and every runner brings something different.

Someone will run farther than they ever have before.
Someone will chase a podium.
Someone will walk miles with friends.
Someone will come back from an injury or a hard season of life.
Someone will discover they’re capable of way more than they thought.
And apparently, someone might stop mid-race to perform in a concert. 🎸😂

That’s the beauty of a timed race:
your race is YOUR race.

Come see what story you’ll write this year at the 2026 Damascus Festival of Miles on October 2–3 in Damascus, Virginia.

Featuring…
- Friday night music + packet pickup
- 3-Hour • 6-Hour • 12-Hour races on Saturday
- Camping for registered runners
- Live music throughout race day
- Food, community, and one seriously fun day in Damascus

You don’t have to be the fastest runner out there.

You just have to keep coming back around.

One mile at a time. ❤️
