Over 200 Kids Receive New Clothing to Start the School Year

United Way of Adams County’s Clothe-a-Kid program provides new clothes and shoes to 208 local students

(Decatur, Ind., August 20, 2026) – More than 200 local children started the new school year with new clothes and shoes thanks to United Way of Adams County's Clothe-a-Kid program.

Through the program, 208 children received two pairs of pants, two shirts, socks, underwear, and athletic shoes. Clothe-a-Kid is part of United Way's Kid Strong in Adams County initiative, which helps local children get what they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

"Every child deserves to walk into school feeling confident and ready to learn," said Jessica Thieme, Executive Director of United Way of Adams County. "Having clothes that fit can help children feel comfortable, included, and ready to take part in the school day. It was wonderful to see how excited many of the children were about their new clothes and shoes."

The program was made possible by support from individuals, families, churches, and businesses throughout the community.

"We are grateful to everyone who supported Clothe-a-Kid this year," Thieme said. "Because of their generosity, every child who requested and needed help through the program received new clothing for the start of school."

📚 Welcome to the Chamber! The Next Page Bookstore & More! 📚

We are thrilled to highlight one of our community’s beloved downtown treasures, The Next Page Bookstore & More, as part of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce!

Owners Richard and Emily Sovine have been sharing their love of reading with our community since opening in 2005. Housed in the historic Niblick Building—a storied structure built back in 1876 that truly has a thousand stories of its own—the bookstore offers a charming atmosphere at 208 West Monroe Street in downtown Decatur.

Step inside and you’ll find far more than just a great selection of new and used books. They carry unique gift items, toys, gourmet coffee, tea, candy, and even a large selection of Warhammer items for local hobbyists! It’s also a vibrant hub for community connection, regularly hosting author events and book signings, special sales throughout the year, and a popular monthly book club.

If you have questions about their current selection or would like to order a specific book, feel free to give them a call at (260) 204-0660!
