An all sports field is the perfect addition to South Ward park! Currently there is basketball there but we plan to create a space that soccer and even volleyball can be included.

Evening aquatics and lapswim are canceled for tonight due to storms. (8/26/26)

South Ward Park will keep it's basketball court and we plan to upgrade it so you can play basketball and soccer. We may also get a net for volleyball play. This is naturally fenced in with the entrance and exit being at the soccer goals.

Saturday KICKED off our Fall youth soccer league. Finally some great weather to play! Thank you to all the coaches who officiated in the absence of our high school officials. We even had a few boys volunteer to officiate. See you all back on the soccer fields this Saturday.

The last piece to our South Ward Park playground for all children to enjoy is the sensory dome. This dome is for ages 5+ and can have up to 60 users at a time. This playscape is something completely new to Decatur and to our parks. This has a rich variety of novel play activities that intrigue children from start to finish. The nets are suspended horizontally and vertically for children who love climbing. The dome promotes strength, stability, and confidence in moving.
The ground level also has nets that sway as children are climbing above. This creates a sense of unity for children who like to stay on the ground but want to still interact with their climbing friends. This pod includes a hangout pod designed for children to sit in together and watch the kids climbing around them.
The turn able optic panels are a very cool visual piece to this structure. Ther are also wall rollers that children can move, sit on, and have fun with!

When this piece was introduced to children in the planning stages, it was the biggest excitement among all the children at the camp and they cannot wait to play here soon!
