Some say all firefighters do is rescue cats from trees… well, yesterday the crew did just that.

This scared little guy had been missing for several days before ending up stuck in a tree. Thankfully, the rescue was successful, and he’s now safely reunited with his owner.

A huge congratulations to our call member, Sara-Jo Richeson, on passing and obtaining her NREMT!

We’ve had the privilege of watching Sara-Jo put in the time, effort, and dedication to reach this milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder. This is a big accomplishment and just the beginning of what we know will be a great career in Fire/EMS.

On Tuesday evening at approximately 9:30 PM, our crews responded to assist with the fire at the PERC plant in Orrington.

We provided a crew of five to the scene, including one chief officer assigned to Water Operations Command, along with four firefighters assisting with tanker shuttle operations and fire suppression efforts.

Some of our crew was released around 5:00 AM Wednesday morning, with the remaining personnel clearing the scene around noon.

We are proud of the dedication and commitment shown by our members during this long and challenging operation, and we’re grateful to work alongside our mutual aid partners.

It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all members of the fire service who are mourning this tremendous loss. Please continue to keep everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts during this difficult time.

The Office of State Fire Marshal is saddened to learn of the passing of 76-year-old Wayne Woodbury on Sunday morning June 14, 2026 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury was among the many firefighters and emergency responders who responded to the May 15, 2026, fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont.

The Office of State Fire Marshal extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the members of the Searsmont Fire Department during this difficult time. The investigation into the Robbins Lumber fire remains ongoing.
