Mosquitoes need standing water to breed, so removing small sources of water around your property can make a big difference. Once a week, check items like flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths, gutters, tarps, children’s toys and outdoor containers. Empty, drain, cover or refresh the water as needed.

When residents reduce mosquito breeding areas, the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District may need to spray fewer times during the season. It’s a simple step that supports a more comfortable, sustainable community for everyone.

ComEd will soon begin preventative tree trimming in the southwest and western portions of the Village of Deerfield.

Over the next three months, trained and qualified arborists will trim trees, branches, and vines that interfere—or could potentially interfere—with power lines. This maintenance helps reduce safety hazards and prevent power outages.

In some cases, tree removal may be necessary. Any remaining stumps will be treated with an approved herbicide by state-licensed applicators to prevent regrowth.

For more information, visit ComEd.com/Trees or call 800-EDISON-1 (800-334-7661).

For this week’s , remember: if you’ll be waiting for more than one minute, turn it off.

When weather conditions allow, please turn off your vehicle while waiting in school pickup lines, parking lots or at the curb. Reducing idling helps limit fuel waste and air pollution—especially near school entrances, sidewalks and areas where students, families and staff are gathered.

A small change to your daily routine can make a meaningful difference for Deerfield’s schools and community. Please use your best judgment based on weather conditions and passenger needs.

One person’s clutter is another person’s comeback story!

Before you donate, toss or stash those extra household items away, make a stop at the Reuse & Recycle Rally on Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bring your car to North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Road, and volunteers will help unload accepted items for reuse, recycling and donation. It’s quick, free and drive-through—no need to leave your vehicle!

Items accepted include clothing, shoes, books, linens, stuffed animals, pet supplies, old keys, U.S. flags, clean Styrofoam #6, automotive batteries, fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and more.

Have papers to purge? Confidential shredding will be available for up to six banker boxes per vehicle, while capacity lasts.
Hosted by the Villages of Deerfield and Bannockburn in partnership with SWALCO. Household items only; only accepted items may be dropped off.
