Have you ever wondered what happens to the recycling collected on Auraria Campus?🥫♻️

Auraria Campus works with Republic Services to collect, separate, and prepare recyclable materials from campus for recycling markets. 🏭

Our team recently took a tour of their Material Recovery Facility, also known as a MRF, where the separation and preparation of materials occurs.🦺

🔑 Some of our key takeaways were:

➡️ The MRF has hand-sorting lines, screens, magnets, and 3 AI robots to separate recyclables into different material streams, like aluminum or paper 🗞️

➡️ Recyclables are baled, meaning they are compressed into compact cubes for transportation to manufacturers 🚂

➡️ Most of the materials are sent to manufacturers in the U.S. to be recycled into new products, but sometimes corrugated cardboard is recycled in Mexico 📦

Have any questions about recycling? 🤔 Comment below! ⬇️⬇️

Check out our newest tool for our compost program: a trommel screener✨

A trommel screener sifts compost, separating material by size. 🪏

Screening weeds out contaminants, like plastic and other non organic materials.🍴🥤

After compost is cured, we screen it to provide a more attractive finished product. 🌟

This will allow us to easily apply the compost through campus.🌳🏫
