The VIPS program seeks first-rate volunteers to take on tasks in partnership with the men and women of the Denver Police Department serving the citizens of the Denver Metropolitan area. We seek to provide volunteers with rewarding and challenging positions, which enhances the capacity of the Police Department to make Denver a better and safer city. In 2016, 251 volunteers gave 26,272 hours to the

Denver Police Department. The value of these hours equals $618,968 in savings for the City and County of Denver. Since the beginning of the VIPS Program in 2004, volunteers have given 421,106 hours, totaling a savings of more than $9.9 million.

District 3’s National Night Out on August 4th was packed with activities and great community energy. Families enjoyed tons to do and see throughout the evening, and the crowd loved the special appearance from the DPD helicopter. The Iron Sharp Community Foundation hosted its annual Back to School Heart Reach event on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Centennial Center Park—and what an incredible day it was! Families enjoyed free backpacks, school supplies, an In‑N‑Out Burger cookout, a Christian hip hop concert, and tons of helpful resources to kick off the school year strong.
A few of our amazing Denver VIPS volunteers were proud to lend a hand and support this impactful community outreach. Always grateful for opportunities to connect, give back, and help families prepare for a great year ahead!

District 2’s National Night Out on August 4th was an absolute blast! Families and neighbors came together for wiener dog races, free food, fishing with the Rangers, and tons of helpful community resources.
Community members were able to register with DenverTrack, sign up for Garage 529, pick up free steering wheel locks, and connect with partners who help keep our neighborhoods safe.
And a huge shout‑out to our incredible volunteers who worked nonstop behind the scenes—setting up tents and tables, running registrations, and making sure everything ran smoothly.

With the start of a new school year quickly approaching, your Denver Police Department and the Denver Police Foundation are excited to partner in setting up Denver students for success by providing free school supplies to families in need. While supplies last, we'll be at five locations handing out backpacks filled with school supplies – no registration or qualifications are required.
