The VIPS program seeks first-rate volunteers to take on tasks in partnership with the men and women of the Denver Police Department serving the citizens of the Denver Metropolitan area. We seek to provide volunteers with rewarding and challenging positions, which enhances the capacity of the Police Department to make Denver a better and safer city. In 2016, 251 volunteers gave 26,272 hours to the Denver Police Department. The value of these hours equals $618,968 in savings for the City and County of Denver. Since the beginning of the VIPS Program in 2004, volunteers have given 421,106 hours, totaling a savings of more than $9.9 million.

Movie Night in the Park featured a special moment of acknowledgment for September 11th and its 25th anniversary, creating a meaningful space for community reflection. DPD volunteers assisted with managing registrations for several crime prevention initiatives and ensured the event had the appropriate level of support throughout the evening. It was a strong example of collaboration and community engagement during a well-attended neighborhood event.

Volunteers recently partnered with State Patrol to support an active‑shooter training scenario, helping troopers stay sharp and ready for real‑world situations.
These hands‑on assignments are always a favorite — volunteers enjoy being active, staying engaged, and playing a meaningful role in training that strengthens safety across our community.

VIPS Spotlight — Mile High Trunk or Treat
With Mile High Trunk or Treat coming up, we’re shining a spotlight on the volunteers who help bring this festive event to life. From setting up the space and managing attendee flow to running fun stations like the pumpkin area, volunteers help make every piece come together. Their support helps create an organized, and exciting experience for families across the community. We couldn’t do it without them!

One of the best perks of working in the VIPS office? Getting to hang out with our Comfort Canine, Bo!
Alexis enjoyed some quality time with Bo the other day, and it’s hard not to smile when he’s around. From bringing calm to the workspace to brightening everyone’s day, Bo makes the office feel a little warmer and a lot more fun.
