We received word this morning that due to current staffing challenges within the Police Department, along with 3 Officers currently out recovering from injuries sustained while on duty, that the Dighton Police Department is unable to compete in the softball game on Sunday May 31st at the cow chip. We are grateful for the work that they do and look forward to rescheduling that game in the future We are hoping for a speedy recovery of the injured officers and ask that everyone please keep them in your thoughts as they recover.

With that the game will go on as scheduled with a guest team.

The game is still on!! Unfortunately the Police had to step out of the game due to a few injuries to police officers. We are going to have a “guest team” in their place. Please wear blue to support the new team.

Apply for your Open Air Burning Permit for 2026:

DIGHTON — Chief Christopher Maguy and the Dighton Fire Department encourage residents to get their burning done early this open burning season as several factors may impact the ability to burn later this spring.

Open burning season began Jan. 15 and runs through May 1. Changing weather conditions in the spring, like windier weather and more sun, can contribute to increased fire danger and may lead to many days when open burning is not allowed. Prior drought conditions and the lack of snowfall this winter also may contribute to increased fire danger.

Residents who wish to burn this season are encouraged to do so early to avoid being impacted by restrictions. As a reminder, a permit is required to open burn in compliance with Massachusetts law.

How to Attain a Permit:
Residents can apply for a burn permit today by creating an account via the department’s burn permit portal: https://dighton.firepermits.com The cost of the permit is $10. Payment should be made online with a credit or debit card or by electronic check. If payment is not made online, a check or money order (made out to the Town of Dighton) must be submitted to the Dighton Fire Department prior to the approval of the burn permit.

Residents will receive an e-mail notifying them when the permit is approved, following receipt of payment. On any day that a resident plans to burn, the permit must be activated by visiting their https://dighton.firepermits.com When a burn is activated the department’s dispatch is able to quickly view the location of the open burn, which will assist in public safety and emergency management this burn season.

If conditions are unsafe for burning, such as high winds or drought, a notification will be posted on the homepage and the system will prevent an individual from activating a burn permit.

Individuals who don’t have access to a computer should call the Dighton Fire Department at 508-669-6611 option 0 when the recording starts for assistance with their burn permit application.

The holiday spirit is officially in full swing!

Today, we kept a cherished Dighton Fire Association tradition alive with our annual Breakfast with Santa event!

This year felt extra special! We were thrilled to open our doors and share the morning with the families of our partners in service: Dighton Police Department and Dighton Communications. It was a fantastic way for all of Dighton Public Safety to gather, enjoy some pancakes, and celebrate a healthy and safe year of service together.

We even had a very special guest fly in all the way from the North Pole (during his busiest season, no less!)—the one and only Santa Claus! 🎁

Events like this are a perfect reminder that we all work together as ONE TEAM for the safety and well-being of our incredible community.

A special thank you to KL Photo & Video for all the photos!

Wishing you all the best this season! From the Dighton Fire Association, Happy Holidays!
