Climb Aboard History at the Air Mobility Command Museum's 40th Anniversary Celebration

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. — The Air Mobility Command Museum will commemorate its 40th anniversary Sept. 26–27, 2026. The public is invited to celebrate this significant milestone as the museum honors its legacy, showcases the history of airlift and air refueling, and looks ahead to the future.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, festivities will include open cockpits, historical reenactors and encampments, a living history team, an A-10 dedication ceremony, hangar talks, and a dance reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s. The museum will open its gates at 9 a.m., with activities beginning at 10 a.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, visitors can again enjoy open cockpits, historical reenactors and encampments, and a living history team. The museum gates will open at 9 a.m., with activities beginning at 10 a.m.

Guests will have the opportunity to explore the interiors of several historic aircraft, including the world's only C-5 Galaxy on public display, a C-47 that participated in D-Day operations, a C-54 that flew during the Berlin Airlift, the first KC-10 ever built, a C-133 loaded with unique historical vehicles, Air Force Two, and many other significant aircraft spanning from World War II to the present day.

Visitors can also get an up-close view of the museum's newest addition, the A-10 Warthog. Knowledgeable museum volunteers, many of whom have firsthand experience with these aircraft, will be available to share stories and insights about their history and operations.

In the event of inclement weather, outdoor aircraft will be closed. However, the C-47 located inside the hangar, the control tower, flight simulator and theater will remain open.

Food will be available for purchase from a local food truck throughout the weekend.

The Air Mobility Command Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free, and photography is encouraged.

For more information, call (302) 677-3855. Adults and children of all ages are welcome to visit and learn about the history and heritage of the United States Air Force.

GREGORY MARSTON
is an author, military historian, and retired USAF/ANG Colonel who served for over 34 years as a pilot flying the A-10A “Warthog” and other Close Air Support aircraft. Besides being an A-10 Wing, Group, and Squadron Commander, he was the only USAF/ANG officer to command two major combat Air Bases & USAF Groups in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). He served on four combat tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait where he also flew 80 A-10A combat missions. He recently retired from a career with American Airlines where he served as a Captain on the Boeing 777,767,757,727 and the Airbus 300-600ER.
