안녕하세요 GSC 강혜정입니다.

요즘 계절의 여왕인 5월 답게 화창한 날씨가 이어지고 있습니다.
한국의 유학 시장도 날씨에 맞게 화창해지길 바랍니다.

오늘은 14시간 전에 Fryeburg Academy 의 계정에 올라온
최근 소식을 나누고자 이메일을 드립니다.

Fryeburg Academy 에서 Honor Science 를 수강하는 학생들이
리서치 아이디어를 내고, 실험하고, 연구결과를 발표했습니다.
올해에는 저희 GSC 학생 중 하나인 HN Lee 학생이 참여를 했습니다.
“Effect of Storage Conditions on Microbial Growth in Dry Dog Food” 라는
주제를 가지고 연구를 진행하고 발표했다는 소식입니다.

Fryeburg 를 졸업한 저희 GSC 학생들은 과거에도
Science Project를 진행하며 좋은 결과를 냈는데
2023년에 졸업한 M Shin 학생은 Science research project를 진행하면서
Maine State Science Fair에 에서 Grand Award 2nd place을 했고
(총 20개의 학교 200명 학생참가) 그 다음에 Maine주를 대표하여
전세계 고등학생 대상 Science competition인 Regeneron ISEF에 출전을 하여
국제무대에서 연구를 발표한 바 있습니다.
M Shin 학생의 (with JW Choi) 연구결과는
Science News Explores에 기사가 실렸습니다.
또한 2025년도 졸업생 MC 학생도 Science Project를 진행한바 있습니다.

참고로 MC Kim 학생은 UCLA에
M Shin 학생은 U of Michigan-Ann Arbor (with scholarship)과
NYU (with scholarship)에 합격을 했고
각각 UCLA와 NYU에 재학중입니다.

We're thrilled to share that John Bapst students claimed 6 of 8 total prizes in the 2026 Margaret Chase Smith Essay Contest, a statewide competition challenging students to defend a governmental program they believe deserves protection. This marks the second consecutive year a Crusader has taken the top spot in the contest.

- Second Place: Kiersten Daigle
- Honorable Mentions: Brighton Chung, Izzy Fagone, Jessie Grant, Julia Turner

The Robotics team at John Bapst Memorial High School, The SnuggleMuffins, made history at the VEX Robotics World Championship in St. Louis!

Out of roughly 10,000 teams from around the world, these Crusaders finished in the top 1% globally, becoming the first Maine team ever to reach the semifinals at Worlds.

As the 12th seed, they upset the 5th seed in the round of 16, then knocked out the 4th seed in the quarterfinals before falling to the top overall seed (who went on to compete for the world title). Along the way, they earned a nickname from the event announcer: “the Sweet Treat you just can’t beat.”

John Bapst went toe-to-toe with the best robotics programs on the planet and showed everyone what it means to be a JB Crusader.

A John Bapst education opens doors to some of the most prestigious universities in the country. This year’s seniors are bound for MIT, Yale, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, NYU, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and more.

HUGE congratulations to John Bapst student-athlete and PCW wrestling superstar Sora Bukoski on capturing the Girls State Wrestling Championship. Sora competed in the 106 lbs class on Tuesday, February 17, at Belfast Area High School.

Sora’s hard work, determination, and relentless effort on the mat paid off in a big way, earning a well-deserved state title and making Crusader history as our first ever Girls Wrestling State Champion.

The John Bapst family is incredibly proud of you, Sora!
