Tonight, our City of Downey had its last summer concerts in the park of the season. The Downey Symphonic Society performed a beautiful concert closing out seven weeks of concerts. From oldies to eighties, a mariachi group and rock bands, this summer brought an array of music genres that delighted thousands of Downey residents.
Thank you to our City of Downey Parks and Recreation for a wonderful summer concert series, and thank you to my outstanding council colleagues for attending every week. Mayor Pro Tem Horacio Ortiz, dorothyfordowney and Hector Sosa, you guys are the best! , , ,

A great shoutout to The Downey Conservancy for a fantastic turnout this evening for the summer movie showing of Back to the Future Bob's Big Boy in Downey! Over 500 people in attendance already and more coming. As City of Downey celebrates the 70th Anniversary of our city’s incorporation, what a great way to celebrate the old days as well as our “future unlimited!” It was great meeting the only and only Claudia Heyneman Wells (Marty’s girlfriend in the movie). Council colleagues dorothyfordowney and Hector Sosa were also there to welcome Claudia and thank the Downey Conservancy for a successful event. , , , ,

Continuous learning is one of the greatest responsibilities of public service. I recently attended the Independent Cities Association (ICA) Summer Conference, where I had the opportunity to gain valuable insights on effective ballot measure outreach and community engagement, crisis communication strategies, voting rights, and the implications of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions.

Just as meaningful was the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues from neighboring independent cities; from Santa Monica, Redondo Beach, San Gabriel, Glendale, Norwalk, Hermosa Beach, and others, Sharing ideas, experiences, and best practices always strengthens our collective ability to better serve our communities. I’m grateful for the conversations, the collaboration, and continued commitment to local government leadership. , , ,

As a lifelong soccer fan, watching nations compete with such passion has been inspiring. Whether your team lifted the trophy or your journey ended earlier, every player, coach, volunteer, first responder, and supporter helped make this a World Cup to remember.

Now, as the world turns its attention to one final match, let’s celebrate the spirit of the game, the friendships it has created, and the memories made.

Here’s to an unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2026. May the best team win!

People do not get to define who I Am because they disagree with my politics. No one gets to define, dictate or malign ME because you do not like what I believe in: Faith, Family & Country.

There are places in America where history isn’t just remembered… it’s felt.

During a recent visit to Boston—the cradle of American democracy—I was reminded of the extraordinary courage that gave birth to our nation.
Standing before the statue of General George Washington, I couldn’t help but reflect on the vision, sacrifice, and leadership that secured the freedoms we enjoy today.

Walking the Freedom Trail is like taking a journey through the very foundation of our Republic. Every brick, every landmark, tells the story of ordinary people who accomplished extraordinary things in the pursuit of liberty.

Visiting Paul Revere’s home and standing outside Old North Church brought to life the midnight ride that helped ignite a movement for independence. Those moments remind us that freedom has always required courage—and citizens willing to stand for something greater than themselves.

As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, we have an opportunity to reflect on the values that continue to define us. Our nation has always welcomed spirited debate and different political viewpoints. That’s not a weakness—it is one of our greatest strengths. Democracy flourishes when we protect every citizen’s right to speak, to be heard, and to respectfully disagree.

The responsibility of our generation is not simply to celebrate America’s history—but to preserve her future. May we continue to protect the freedoms that unite us, cherish the opportunities that inspire us, and leave an even stronger nation for those who will follow.

God bless our great nation, and God bless the United States of America. , , , , ,
