Today, I had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Mayors from neighboring cities, City Managers, Fire Chiefs, and Police Chiefs to our First Regional Mayors Summit:
Emergency Mitigation Strategies.
Leaders from Downey, Lakewood, Pico Rivera, Norwalk, Bell, Bellflower, Cudahy, and Vernon came together for a regional discussion focused on emergency preparedness, mitigation, response, communication and coordination, and community resilience.
The summit also featured presentations and participation from representatives of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, and Union Pacific Railroad. , , , , ,

My council colleagues dorothyfordowney and Hector Sosa attended today’s Downey Symphony Orchestra annual fundraiser today. The theme, Fiesta! Live music brings people together, celebrates culture and promotes community. For the past 68 years, the Downey Symphony has brought beautiful music by incredible professional musicians to our community. It’s 68th season gets underway next month in October at our Downey Theatre Let’s support it and plant the seeds of culture and music in our younger generations. Thank you to Pat Gil, board member for a fantastic event today.

We had a beautiful day today at the I Love Downey Festival! So many families came to enjoy an evening of community, music, food, crafts and our hometown heroes, our Downey Police Department and our City of Downey Fire Department. We are grateful to our City of Downey Parks and Recreation and Downey Public works staff for their hard work, bringing this special event together. We also celebrated our City of Downey 70th Anniversary since its incorporation in 1956. Thank you Downey residents for coming out and celebrating another year of community pride as we celebrate all things Downey! A special shoutout to our The Downey Conservancy and our Downey Historical Society for their support and dedication. , , , Hector Sosa, Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco

My council colleagues dorothyfordowney, Hector Sosa and I had the opportunity to welcome the 27th Downey PD Citizens Academy this evening. The 10-week program gives residents an opportunity to learn more about our PD. Participants/Downey residents must apply early to be eligible to participate. Participants become our city’s ambassadors and help promote the great work our men and women in uniform do to protect our city. , , , ,
