This evening, this little feline was missing from her home causing concern for her humans…we’re happy we could help get her home, unharmed. Thanks to Downtown Nate Brown for putting it on the line!😁

As wildfires continue to threaten communities across the country, the IAFC Wildfire Programs team extends our sincere gratitude to the wildland firefighters and partners working tirelessly to protect lives, homes, and communities.

Local fire departments, state and federal agencies, private contractors, military personnel, and international partners have come together to answer the call and support communities in need. Your commitment, professionalism, and willingness to serve are deeply appreciated.

We also recognize the tremendous risks that come with this work. We honor those who have been injured and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with their families, colleagues, departments, and fire service communities.

To everyone working on the fireline and supporting wildfire response efforts across the country, thank you for your courage, dedication, and service. We wish you safe operations and a safe return home.

There were early signs that this fire season could be a big one, especially the record-low snowpack last winter. In Teton County — near the Grand Targhee Resort — that spurred interest in a novel effort: raising money to help hire a local wildfire mitigation coordinator.

Effective August 29, 2026, burn permits are available and can be activated in Teton County.

This Summer, Teton County entered and remained in the Extreme Drought category and firefighting resources in our region have been stretched thin. TCFR has responded to 38 outdoor fires and has had 12 Red Flag Warnings for critical fire weather.

We will monitor conditions on a day to day basis and adjust accordingly.

We want to thank our citizens for their patience as we navigate this fire season.

Good morning! Today and tomorrow, TCFR will be out and about the community staged at the schools. We want to say Hi to students, wave to our parents and urge safe driving around our schools.

We want to sincerely thank B on 33 for hosting an amazing fundraiser this evening at Wydaho. A portion of the proceeds went to funding TCFR Wildfire Mitigation efforts. Chief Maltaverne had a chance to speak to attendees about preparing for a wildfire, defensible space and evacuation planning. It’s great to see such a strong sense of community!

A fire has been detected in the Rainey Creek area South and West of Victor. Crews from the U.S. Forest Service are responding. There is no other information available at this time.

Several people have commented about the rains we received last week. The moisture did help our local conditions, however, 100% of the County remains in Severe Drought and 67% are in the Extreme Drought category. We need to remain diligent and continue to take measures to reduce the risk of wildfires.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Teton Valley for Saturday, August 22 Noon to 9:00 PM. This is a result of expected thunderstorms that can bring dry lightning with strong and erratic winds. Coupled with already dry vegetation and low relative humidity, these conditions create critical fire weather.
