π¨ Smoke/Haze Advisory for Our Area π¨
We have received multiple calls regarding smoke and haze across the region. This is NOT from local fires, but is drifting in from large wildfires in south Georgia and north Florida.
π₯ Whatβs causing the smoke?
Two large fires in southern Georgia (Brantley County area near Highway 82 and near Stockton) are producing significant smoke that is being carried north.
A smaller fire in the Florida Big Bend area is also contributing to haze higher in the atmosphere.
π«οΈ What to expect:
Periods of smoke and haze, especially noticeable in the mornings and evenings
Reduced air quality at times
Hazy skies and more vivid/red sunsets
π¬οΈ Outlook:
These conditions are expected to continue through the rest of the week. A cold front this weekend should help clear the smoke and improve air quality.
π Please note: We are aware of the situation and are monitoring conditions. There is no immediate local threat, but if you see smoke that appears close or unusual, do not hesitate to report it.
Stay safe and stay informed.
