One of the El Paso Zoo Asian elephants, Juno, will undergo her 7th cancer treatment this week. This procedure is considered high risk .

Juno was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2016 and has received various electro-chemotherapy treatments to keep the tumor small.

Unfortunately, the tumor has stopped responding to the last treatment and has become more aggressive.

Juno is 53 years old, which is considered geriatric for an elephant and there are many possible complications due to the nature of the surgery, her age and length of healing.

Cancer treatments for Juno are made possible by the support of the El Paso Zoological Society.

The El Paso Zoo & Botanical Gardens honors all who have served including LB, our own U.S. Navy veteran.

LB was trained to look for aquatic bombs in the ocean. During his training sessions, he was a little too playful and preoccupied in the open ocean to do his job adequately. He was dishonorably discharged from the Navy and now resides here at the El Paso Zoo where he spends his day frolicking around his exhibit.

Thank you to all veterans for their sacrifice to our country! 🇺🇸

Happy slow loris outreach week!

Here are some fun facts about the slow loris:

1️⃣ The Slow Loris is a small nocturnal primate and there are nine different species.

2️⃣ Their closest relatives are the African Bushbabies which they evolved away from around 40 million years ago.

3️⃣ The name 'loris' is Dutch for "clown". It likely was given that name for its distinct facial markings and large eyes. 🤡

4️⃣ Their large eyes aid them in feeding at night as they are a nocturnal animal. 👀

5️⃣ They have one of the longest primate tongues. 👅

Now enjoy our resident Pygmy Slow Loris, Kym-Ly, as she enjoys some fresh fruit! 🍇

The virus doesn’t live on surfaces in the heat in the outdoors. It does not easily spread even in close proximity in the outdoors. You should strongly consider what the CDC says about how COVID-19 spreads. Open for those who have paid for season passes, at minimum.
Hello! What's going to happen to Zoo Members' memberships? I understand its not your fault members cannot use their memberships but it is also not the members' fault either. I'm just asking bc we are Zoo Members, just purchased in Feburary 2020. Any information is greatly appreciated!!
