The Chemung County Health Department is Proud to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week; this year’s theme is “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.” Breastfeeding is more than nutrients and calories, its LOVE in its purest form.

Breast milk protects, grows, and STRENGTHENS our babies. Whether you’re combination feeding or exclusively breastfeeding, any amount of breastmilk given is proven to have positive health outcomes.

At the Chemung County Health Department, we are committed to supporting your breastfeeding journey by providing FREE lactation support and latch assessments with one of our amazing CLCs for anyone living within Chemung County. Make an appointment today by calling 607-737-2488.

Every drop of breast milk is an investment in a healthier future for you, your baby, your families, our communities, and our planet. A healthy future begins with breastmilk.

This week, we recognize the vital role the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) plays in helping families reach their breastfeeding goals.

Through nutrition education, peer counseling, lactation support, and connections to community resources, WIC empowers parents with the knowledge and encouragement they need throughout their infant feeding journey. WIC works alongside healthcare providers and community organizations to strengthen support for breastfeeding families and improve health outcomes for parents and babies.

At The New York Milk Bank, we're proud to share WIC's commitment to ensuring every family has access to the resources and support they need. Together, we're helping build healthier communities, one family at a time.

Breastmilk is more than just food — it’s a living, changing blend of nutrients, antibodies, proteins, and healthy fats that help support your baby’s immune system. Your body is doing something pretty incredible.
