29 May 2026

Positive identification of the remains recovered on 11 May 2026 were confirmed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to be Markavious Rumph Jr.

Josiah Isaiah MCKINNEY, 19, of Eufaula, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in this case. He is charged with:

Murder (13A-6-2)
Abuse of a Co**se (13A-11-13)
Tampering with Physical Evidence (13A-10-129)

Further interviews are still being conducted at this time. On occasion the need for information by the public is outweighed by the integrity of an investigation. Detectives were in contact with the parents on day 1 of Rumph Jr being reported missing to build timelines and produce contacts to trace his last known locations. Significant evidence was recovered on day 2 that led to the arrest of McKinney after the positive identification of the remains were made.

We appreciate the assistance from BCSO, SBI, Troy University and ADFS.

FOUND and returning home.

14-year-old Hispanic Juvenile. Missing from the 200 block of Cypress Drive, Eufaula. Al. Left the residence walking between 0900 and 1000 hours on 05/26/2026. Eloy Perez DOB: 01/14/2012, 5"7 155lbs, black hair and brown eyes. Last seen wearing black shoes, white tank top and black sweatpants.

PRESS RELEASE

On 23 May 2026, at approximately 11:38 p.m., Eufaula PD responded to the 1700 block of S. Eufaula Ave for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, Officers found several casings and vehicles that had been struck.

During the response, two individuals arrived at Medical Center Barbour with gunshot wounds. One has been released and the other is still hospitalized but in stable condition.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.

As the school year comes to an end, we have finally added another SRO that will attend training over the summer months, so it does not create a lack of presence in the schools. All of the SROs attend training during the summer for that reason.

From left to right:

Our newest addition, Ofc Chris Hutto is returning to the PD to fill this very important duty.

Det. Alexander Swanson will be picking up the role as our juvenile Detective in the school system.

And of course, our SRO lead, Cpl Bobby Jaramillo leads the SROs through daily operations.

Our goal is to add the fourth SRO by the end of summer so that our greatest resource, our children, have a safe place to learn. These SROs are assigned to the Eufaula Public Schools; The Lakeside School still gets love from us as we frequent their parking lot and grounds a couple times a day.

PRESS RELEASE

14 May 2026

The Eufaula PD and BCSO is currently investigating the discovery of human remains located near White Oak Church road.

Officers responded to the area after receiving information regarding the discovery. Upon arrival, investigators secured the scene and began processing the location. The identity of the individual has not yet been confirmed pending further examination.

*** A vehicle was seized Friday, May 8, that was hidden behind a residence with a shovel located nearby. The vehicle has been processed and what appears to be traces of blood were found. We are currently awaiting confirmation from the Forensic Team.

On Sunday, May 10th, A small rag with what appears to be a blood stains was found at 290 White Oak Church Road. It has also been sent off for validation.

Tuesday, May 12, Cadaver dogs and Anthropologist Investigators searched three different areas that found and collected more remains.

The body is now currently with the Alabama Department of Forensics Science labs for positive identification.

Interviews are currently being conducted at this time. ***

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional details will be released as they become available and when appropriate to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
