We asked you to nominate someone who has made a difference in your life…

Our first responder is Charlie Skoog, a longtime volunteer with the Eugene Mission. Charlie nominated his dear friend and fellow volunteer Alfonso!

“Alfonso has impacted so many lives giving his “upmost” to the Utmost. His Light shines so bright at the Mission and wherever God leads him. A best friend in Christ like no other!” ❤️❤️❤️

Folks are nominating someone worthy of recognition who has made a difference in their lives.

We’re publishing these all month in honor of our “Double Your Difference” matching donation challenge.

Has someone made a big difference in your life?

This June, in honor of our “Double Your Difference” matching donation challenge, we’re acknowledging people who have made a difference in the lives of others.

Send us a message with the name of the person you’re thanking and why they’re special to you, or just post it in the comments. (You can post a first name or keep the person anonymous if you prefer).

We’ll go first. We nominate Bob, a faithful volunteer in the Eugene Mission’s Rescue Shelter.

Bob comes every week to lift up and encourage guests who have just come in off the street. His gentle ways and kind words have let so many guests know that they are loved and cared for.

Thank you Bob! You’re a difference maker. 🎉💕🙌

💫Double your difference this June! 💫

Through June 30th, every gift to the Eugene Mission will be matched dollar-for-dollar through our Summer of Growing Matching Challenge.

Your gifts ensure that guests like Jessica, in the women's Life Change Program, continue receiving the help they need to grow strong.

“You could say my growth has been like a mustard seed,” Jessica shares. “I had just enough faith to go to detox, and I grew it a lot more by coming here.”

“I was sleeping in a parking garage, in the rain, strung out,” shares R3 Program guest Jake.

“My mom suggested I come to the Eugene Mission,” he said. “It was a weird rock bottom, but I’d had enough.”

Jake had cycled through around 26 treatment centers and tried to get sober countless times.

What was different this time was his conviction that he was done. “I detoxed myself in the Rescue Shelter and then got down to work,” he said.

After more than a year at the Mission, Jake is now finishing his certificate to become a certified drug and alcohol counselor and has plans to continue his schooling to get a degree in psychology.

Jake got hooked on opiates at 16 when he was prescribed a drug by his doctor after a car crash. “Six months later I had a needle in my arm,” he shared. “It cost me everything.”

Jake is building a new life and that includes a deep relationship with his church where he plays bass in the band. “I knew God drew me to that church last Easter Sunday,” he said. “I’ve always had faith and believed, but since I got sober, God just showed me the way.”

He was also invited to play in the worship band at this year‘s Life Change graduation ceremony, which he described as an unbelievable experience.

Congrats Jake! We’re rooting for you. 🙌

A lot happens between the time a guest walks through our front door and the day they graduate to a new life.

We had the pleasure today of showing a group of people from our community exactly what that looks like.

Thank you to everyone who attended our “Path Off the Streets Tour”! We love sharing about the work that goes on here.

Reach out to [email protected] if you’d like to schedule a tour for yourself!

The Life Change crew spent Friday at the beautiful Lily of the Valley Ranch as a community service project. 🪏🪴

The ranch is a mixture of pasture, fields and gardens where the guests planted, removed non-native species from woodlands and even set up new fencing.

Community service is a big part of recovery. Spending time outdoors and tending to the land is a healing experience, the guests shared.

We’re so grateful for this ranch and the partnership we have with them! ❤️‍🩹
