Since July 1, the Evansville Fire Department and Evansville-Vanderburgh Central Dispatch have partnered to begin the Crosswalk to Care™ program, a 911 Care Navigation program designed to help residents with non-emergency medical concerns find the care they need.

So, what does that mean?

When someone calls 911 for a medical concern, dispatchers will continue sending an ambulance for life-threatening or urgent emergencies. That will never change.

However, for calls that do not require an emergency response, callers may be connected with a Care Navigator who can help identify the best next step for their healthcare needs.

That could include:

✅ Connecting with a doctor or urgent care
✅ Helping with medication questions or follow-up care
✅ Connecting to behavioral health resources
✅ Providing guidance for managing care at home
✅ Helping arrange transportation when needed

And here’s something important:

This service is available to everyone: insured, underinsured or uninsured. There is no cost to the resident or the City of Evansville. Funding comes through participating healthcare insurance partners.

The goal is simple: The right care. The right time. The right resource.

Our firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and dispatchers will always be there when you need emergency help. The Crosswalk to Care program simply provides our community with another option for those situations when an ambulance may not be the best solution.

REMEMBER: If you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

🚨Mayday Alert for Capt Pace’s son, Jentry🚨

On July 5, Captain John Pace of the Ohio Township Fire Department was boating with his family when a tragic accident occurred. His five-year-old son, Jentry, suffered critical injuries after being struck by a boat propeller. Captain Pace immediately pulled Jentry from the water and brought him safely to shore, where they were met by a conservation officer. Using a tourniquet provided by the officer, Captain Pace helped stabilize his son until emergency medical care arrived. Jentry was then transported to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, where he has undergone multiple surgeries.

Jentry pulled past his initial injuries, but it is still uncertain whether his leg can be saved. He continues to face additional surgeries, followed by what is expected to be a long and challenging recovery. Captain Pace and his wife, Jana, are standing by Jentry's side every step of the way while also caring for their two daughters during this difficult time. The entire Pace family is facing an overwhelming emotional and physical journey together, so let’s pull together some love and financial support while they face this fight.
