🚨 Safe towing reminder from Solano CHP 🚨

This driver of a Toyota 4Runner towing a 26-foot trailer learned a tough lesson about towing.

While traveling through Solano County, a combination of wind and speed led the driver to lose control of the trailer.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved, and no one was injured—but it could have ended very differently.

Towing a trailer that exceeds your vehicle’s safe capacity—especially when factoring in speed and wind—can quickly turn dangerous. Trailer sway, reduced braking ability, and loss of control are real risks that happen fast.

Before you tow:
✔️ Know your vehicle’s towing limits
✔️ Properly load and balance your trailer
✔️ Ensure you have properly working trailer brakes (any trailer over 3000lbs)
✔️ Adjust your speed for conditions
✔️ Be aware of wind and weather conditions
Your destination will still be there—make sure you arrive safely.

🌧️ April Showers Bring May Flowers… and Too Many Crashes 🌼🚗

With rain in the forecast this week, CHP Solano Area is reminding drivers to slow down and adjust to changing road conditions. Wet roads reduce traction, increase stopping distances, and make it easier to lose control—especially at higher speeds.

💧 Tips for driving in the rain:
• Slow down and give yourself extra time to reach your destination
• Increase your following distance
• Turn on your headlights
• Make sure your tires and wipers are in good condition
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns

Don’t let a spring shower turn into a preventable crash. Slow down, stay alert, and help keep our roads safe for everyone.
