Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-505 Results in Felony DUI Arrest
On Sunday, August 30, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) Solano Area dispatch received an automated iPhone crash alert regarding an incident on southbound Interstate 505, just south of Putah Creek Road. While responding units were en route, the call was updated to indicate multiple vehicles were involved in a crash at the location.
Upon arrival, officers determined the crash primarily involved two vehicles, with three additional vehicles sustaining damage after striking debris from the initial crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, driving a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, missed an exit and made a U-turn on the freeway. Due to a high level of suspected intoxication, the driver failed to realize they were not on a two-way county road and began traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-505, directly resulting in a head-on crash with a 2026 Nissan Kicks.
Tragically, the victim, who was the driver and sole occupant of the Nissan—a 66-year-old White female adult from Vacaville—was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect, who was the driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet Tahoe—a 45-year-old Hispanic male adult from Vallejo—sustained minor injuries. He was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of felony Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Following medical clearance, he will be booked into the Solano County Jail.
Southbound traffic on I-505 was diverted at Putah Creek Road while officers investigated the scene and crews cleared the roadway. The freeway was fully reopened at approximately 4:20 a.m.
