That's a wrap on our 2026 Citizens Fire Academy. For our final night, participants got a closer look at our Special Operations team and what it means to be an all-hazards fire department.

There's a lot more to what we do than fighting fires and responding to medical calls. From dive operations to trench and confined space rescues, our personnel train to handle a wide range of situations that require specialized skills and equipment.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us over the past five weeks! We enjoyed getting to know you, answering your questions, and sharing more about what we do.

Today, we gathered to remember Assistant Chief Raymond "Bud" Moulder, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on October 13, 1967.

Chief Moulder lost his life while saving another during a fire when a wall collapsed. He left behind his wife and five young children.

Each year, members of Fishers Fire Department gather at his graveside to honor his memory, remember his service, and recognize the sacrifice made by his family.

We are grateful for the opportunity to gather with his family each year and honor his memory together.

Chief Moulder and his family will always be part of our fire family.

Congratulations to Captain Robert Mayfield and Firefighter Greg Morlen on 20 years of service with Fishers Fire Department.

This evening, we celebrated this milestone and presented each with a commemorative fire service axe. The axe has a long history in the fire service and is a meaningful way to recognize their dedication to the profession.

Both are exceptional individuals who continue to make our department and community better. We're grateful for their hard work, dedication, and everything they bring to our department.

🔋 We charge things every day without giving it much thought. But are we charging them safely?

From phones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, and e-scooters, lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives. But improper charging or damaged batteries can lead to serious fires.

October is Fire Prevention Month, so let's talk about safer charging habits.

✅ That cheap replacement charger might seem like a good deal, but not all chargers are created equal. Stick with the charger recommended by the manufacturer.

✅ Unplug devices once they're fully charged, and avoid charging overnight or when you're away.

✅ Charging your phone on the bed or couch? Move it to a hard, flat surface away from anything that can burn.

✅ Make sure your e-bike or e-scooter isn't charging in a doorway, hallway, or anywhere that could block your way out.

✅ If a battery starts swelling, gets unusually hot, leaks, or gives off strange smells or noises, stop using it.

We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but it’s also where many home fires start. In fact, cooking is the leading cause of home fires.

During Fire Prevention Month, take a quick look at what’s sitting on and around your stove. Keep anything that can burn away from the stovetop, even when you’re not cooking. Burners can accidentally be turned on by people or curious pets. 🐾

👀 When you are cooking, stay in the kitchen and keep a lid nearby. If a small grease fire starts in a pan, slide the lid over it, turn off the burner, and never use water.

Citizens Fire Academy participants learned how Fishers Fire Department and Fishers Police Department work together through our High Threat Response Program.

They also completed Stop the Bleed training, learning how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and take action before first responders arrive. Participants practiced hands-on techniques to control severe bleeding, including applying pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet.

We’ve been out and about in Fishers this week!

We were graciously invited to Hensley Legal Group, PC's wellness fair to talk fire and life safety, joined our partners at Fishers Police Department for their Open House, and traded our usual tools for hammers during the City of Fishers Habitat for Humanity Panel Build.

Three very different events, but each gave us a chance to connect, lend a hand, and spend time with our community.
