🎭 “Theater isn’t something that we just consume.” 🎭

In next week’s episode of The Brighter Futures Podcast, we sit down with Steve Maler and Bryn Boice from Commonwealth Shakespeare Company to talk about the power of shared experiences through live theatre, and why access to the arts matters now more than ever.

This conversation explores how theatre builds empathy, connection, and community in ways that stay with young people long after the curtain closes. 🎙️✨

A new episode drops Monday!

What does meaningful access to the arts REALLY look like? 🎭

This year, Rodman for Kids proudly covered the cost of all Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's Stage2 student matinee performances of "Romeo & Juliet," ensuring thousands of students could experience live theatre at no cost to schools or families.

Our newest Brightened Futures story explores how this partnership goes beyond simply attending a performance through accessibility supports, student-centered experiences, educational resources, and opportunities that help young people feel like they truly belong in these spaces.

As one of our incredible Theatre for Kids partners, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) is such a strong example of our CUE Model in action. 🌟

Together, we’re helping young people Connect with theatre before they even arrive through meaningful educational resources and activities that build context, excitement, and understanding ahead of the performance.

On the day of the show, students are Uplifted through an inclusive and welcoming experience complete with accessibility supports, thoughtful talkbacks, and the impact of seeing near-peer actors on stage.

And long after the final bows, CSC helps Empower youth to continue exploring the arts by offering free performances on Boston Common every summer - creating a no-cost opportunity for students and families to return, build traditions, and deepen their connection to live theatre year after year. 🎭✨

We’re so proud to partner with organizations like CSC that help turn a single theatre experience into something much bigger!

Last Saturday, our community came together for the 36th Annual Ride for Kids, and we’re still overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who helped make the day so special! 🌟

From riders pedaling mile after mile, to volunteers arriving before the sun fully rose, sponsors and vendors bringing the event to life, and supporters cheering us on from near and far - this day was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we show up for kids, together.

The Ride for Kids has always been more than a cycling event. It’s about community, hope, and creating brighter futures for kids through the incredible network of youth-focused nonprofits that make this work possible every day.

To everyone who rode, volunteered, fundraised, sponsored, shared a post, or simply believed in this mission: THANK YOU. 💙

Fundraising remains open through September 1st, and we can’t wait to continue celebrating the impact this community is creating together.

Some opportunities stay with you forever. 🎭✨

Twenty years ago, Mikey McCarthy attended his very first theatre performance: "Dora’s Pirate Adventure" at the Citizens Opera House. Today, he still has the ticket framed in his office.

That’s the power of early access to the arts.

In this week’s episode of The Brighter Futures Podcast, Mikey reflects on the opportunities that shaped him growing up, and why those experiences inspired him to now give back through Rodman for Kids so more kids can create memories of their own. 💫

🎙️ Episode is live now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube, and iHeartRadio!
