California often speaks in ambitious terms about climate resilience, clean energy, and sustainable water management. Turning those goals into workable solutions is proving more difficult, particularly in regions where water supply has become increasingly uncertain.

Westlands is seeking an experienced leader to oversee government affairs, legislative advocacy, communications, and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate will bring at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative advocacy, or public affairs, including three years in a supervisory or management role. Experience with California water policy and working with elected officials and industry partners is highly desirable.

Position may be based in our Fresno or Sacramento office.

Never forget. Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost and the heroes of that day, and we remember them through the work that keeps this country strong - feeding its families, sustaining its economy, and delivering the water that makes it all possible.

Yesterday, Westlands welcomed Congressman Vince Fong for an aerial tour of the Central Valley’s water system, followed by a community discussion at the District’s Fresno office.

Seeing California’s water system from the air tells a story that is difficult to capture from the ground. The tour provided a firsthand look at the interconnected system that serves the Central Valley and how decisions throughout that system ultimately affect water reliability on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley.

The conversation continued on the ground with growers and community, business and education leaders, focusing on the challenges created by unpredictable water supplies and the ripple effects those decisions have throughout the Westside economy and our communities.

We appreciate Congressman Vince Fong taking the time to see the system firsthand and hear directly from those who rely on it.

On this day in 1952, Westlands Water District was founded to bring reliable water to the Westside of the San Joaquin Valley. 74 years later, that commitment remains, even as the tools and challenges have changed.

From building the infrastructure that first brought water to the region to investing in groundwater management, recharge and storage today, Westlands has spent nearly three quarters of a century finding practical ways to support the growers and communities of the Westside.

Happy 74th anniversary to Westlands Water District, and to the growers, employees and communities who have helped build this story together!

Westlands Water District offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observation of Labor Day. Harvest doesn't take a day off, and neither does the water keeping it moving. Thank you to the growers and farmworkers who keep this Valley fed, and a safe holiday to all.

Water grows food. Food feeds families. Last week in Huron, that cycle came full circle. 11,751 pounds distributed to our west side neighbors in partnership with the Central California Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who made it happen!

Meet Marisa Schneider, a fourth-generation farmer at Errotabere Ranches, a 3,600-acre operation in Westlands growing everything from almonds and pistachios to w**e grapes, cotton, garlic, and tomatoes.

Marisa grew up visiting her dad at the ranch, running around the office and watching him work, and started helping out herself in high school. Today, she handles payroll, accounts payable, and chemical reporting, and sits down with their irrigation foreman on every water order to manage their Westlands allocation and keep usage on track.

Looking ahead, she hopes her two boys grow up with the same access to fresh, USA-grown food, and the option to carry the family legacy forward if they choose.
